Hi,

I've had computer problems for the past 3 months although I thought I had fixed it until just tonight I've tried to play Counter-Strike : Global Offensive and within 10minutes of gameplay the pc crashes to a black screen and I can still hear people on ventrilo for a couple of seconds before the sound loops into a glitchy mess. The screen turns black and I have to do a hard reset in order to re-start the PC. No BSOD message appears and only sometimes does a log appear when I use the program BlueScreenView.

Upon restarting PC and reconnecting to my game it took less than 5 minutes each time to crash to a black screen. In the past I was plagued with BSOD/random black screen crashes similiar to this and a memtest result indicated faulty RAM. I replaced my 2x4GB g.skill DDR3 RAM and have not had trouble for the past 3 weeks. I have also recently re-formatted my SSD and downloaded the newest Nvidia drivers but the PC still crashes, occasionly even whilst browsing the web and whilst the PC is idling.

My temps for my GPU/CPU are very stable and are low sitting at about ~40C idle and 50-60 at load. both are running at stock speed and are not overclocked. I ran the program and will include a .zip of what is going on and hopefully one of you will be able to help me. The GPU is only 9 months old and is still under warranty.

One last thing to note was there was always a loud ticking noise with my front fan as a bit of the dust mesh guard near the front panel came loose and was hitting the intake fan. I was listening to music when i heard a crunching noise and then silence and since then I had a look in BIOS to see that Fan #2 was N/A for it's RPM leading me to believe the intake fan is broken.

Whilst this happened the morning before my main troubles, I played for around 10 hours that day with 0 issues and temps were perfectly fine. If the fan is somehow causing this, it is not because of temperatures because I'm sitting around ~50C playing CS;GO on both GPU/CPU.

0x116 errors are mostly caused by graphics drivers or a failing graphics card, I suggest running Furmark by following these instructions to rule out the hardware possibility.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html

Run it for around 30 minutes.

Post back the results.

Hi, I just ran the test and within 3 minutes the crash occurred. Do you need the log file because I'm not sure what directory it is located in.

EDIT : Just did a clean install of nvidia drivers as per the instructions in one of the posts above and am currently re-doing the test to see if it fixes it.

EDIT2: Just finished doing the test after the clean install and the temperatures rise from ~45 to 82C and by about 3 minutes in the PC will crash with a top temp of 82C and 100% load.

That is a very strong indication your GPU is failing.
You should replace it.

Thanks, I'm going to try quickly swap out my GPU to see if it crashes with a different GPU, if it doesn't then I'm going to put the GTX 770 in to warranty. Thanks!

Just out of interest, let's say I test my PC again with a different GPU (GTX 560 ti). If the problem still persists on a fresh format + new clean drivers, what other hardware could cause this type of error? The error is as below.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 (0xfffffa8006efb4e0, 0xfffff88008b7e694, 0xffffffffc000009a, 0x0000000000000004). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 042614-12308-01.

Motherboard or too much heat build up within the case.

Try seating the card in a different PCIe slot. Never overclock components that you are troubleshooting.

Yes Golden is correct, the PCIe slot could be faulty or it could be too much heat in the PC (i.e. not enough airflow).

Ok so I decided to do some more troubleshooting and I did some CPU tests with prime95 and I didn't crash after 15mins. I did crash randomly on the desktop some minutes after closing prime95 and within 30 seconds of logging into windows I crashed another 3 times.

On the 3rd time it displayed the message "PLEASE POWER DOWN AND CHECK PCI POWER CABLE CONNECTION TO THIS GRAPHICS CARD"

Could this be the PSU at all or is it the GPU still?

What's your power supply?
I doubt it's that though, did you test a different graphics card?

600W Enermax Bronze 80-86%,

I just opened up PC and this is really embarrassing but somehow on the 6+2 pin power cable the 2pin part had come loose even though I've never touched it since installing it, I just firmly pushed down and felt it slide more into the graphics card and now I've run my game for over an hour without a crash so far, I do have a GTX 660 on call if my problems persist but I think it's fixed for now, thanks for all your help.
