PC Hangs On POST Screen

Hi guys,

Please correct me if I am in the wrong place for it.

Most times when I turn my PC on it tends to hang or freeze on the POST screen. Sometimes it just takes a while for it to get through onto booting Windows and other times it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. At the latter pressing the buttons to get into the BIOS config doesn't seem to work either. Google searches for this issue don't really help either as the problems on other forums don't particularly apply to me.

I never used to have this problem before but it has been going on for about a month or so. Nothing has been added to the computer since then apart from a new webcam and keyboard. Some of my PC specs are listed below.

Thanks!
Atif

Asus Z97-A Motherboard
Intel Core i5-4690k
1TB HDD
128GB SSD (where Windows is installed)
Win 7 Pro
Generic DVD drive (if that has anything to do with it)

If I understood well, it hangs during POST. Once it begins to boot on Windows it works fine.
Normally a delay during POST is related to a hardware that isn't set or working properly. Can also be a BIOS settings.
Do you have a graphics card?
What brand is the SSD?
What memory you have installed?
Did you set CSM properly?
Did you installed Win 7 as Legacy or UEFI (CSM config)?

Detach the the SATA cable from the SSD, HDD and ODD. See if it POST quickly.
If it does, attach only the HDD. See if it POST quickly.
Then the HDD+SSD. If it POST quickly the bad guy is the ODD.

Yes, that's if it does want to boot to Windows.

Yes my GPU is a GTX 970 but i can't imagine that being a problem. Like i said, this issue only occurred recently. The SSD is a Sandisk one and the memory is two G skill ripjaws 4gb modules and two Corsair 4gb modules. And i don't think i did anything with the CSM. I've barely touched the bios other than to change which drive the computer to boot from which i did when i built this computer which as September 2015.

Ill try the detach cable method when i come home from work tonight.

Thanks for the help

It can be because you have mixed memory.
Take out one pair (G skill or Corsair) and see what happens.

One pair must be on Ch A and B and second pair also must be on Ch A and B.
So one pair should be in slot 1 and 3 and the second on slot 2 and 4
