PC Powers on, then off, then comes on normally

Ok, for a week now, my PC will power on when I press the button, boot normally for a few seconds, then it just loses all power.
If I press the power button again, it boots perfectly fine.
I thought it could be the switch on the case, so have bought a new case and installed it, making sure all the connections are tight. For a while (2 turn ons) it was fine and I thought it was fixed, today I have gone to turn it on and it has done the same.
Is my PSU dying?
or could it be something else?

I think that it might likely be your PSU. DO you have another that you could use to test the theory? Even one from a friend temporarily. It's better than buying a new supply and finding out that isn't the issue. But from what you're describing, it sounds like a PSU issue.

It's not the PSU, nor is it the power lead, as i am now using the new one that came with the PSU in a different plug socket, so its not that, Think I am going to have to live with it

The reason I asked is because some newer power supplies have a pre-check if the power to the power supply has been removed.

Example:
If you turn the wall outlet power off to the power supply and then turn it back on, the power supply will do a pre-check.
This pre-check will start the power supply and then stop and restart if everything is okay.
If you leave the power (wall socket) to the power supply on it will not do this stop and start thing.

My AX860i will act this way. Your millage may vary.

It is left on permanently at the wall.
Turning my pc on this morning it did the same thing as before, on, off then powered on.
Just now after work, it came straight on, so will keep an eye for a day or 2

Just an update, i have a PCI-E add in card with 4 USB 3 ports on it, that has also stopped working now, I have reseated it several times and it is continuously dead, so is it possible the Motherboard is failing?
I have just checked and it is just over 2 years old now

having removed the PCI-E card, i noticed a Sata Power socket on the end and have now connected this up and it seems to have solved the problem, will check tomorrow morning as well, before marking as solved as that was only unplugged in the case move and was connected before when i had the problem.
Also my OCZ Agility SSD 60GB has now vanished from windows so maybe that failing was something to do with it

ok, thanks, although i'm quite sure it's nothing to do with Windows as it happens just after POST and before any of the HDDs are accessed

Correct, not OS caused.

Does it present any problem other than a longer boot time?

I have personally seen this behavior on several Gigabyte branded boards.....both AMD as well as Intel based. You might try to contact Gigabyte about the issue.

It may be something else....hard to tell exactly. This just has been my experience.
