Toshiba laptop random shut-down about one minute after booting
- PC auto restarts with "DOS window options" ... I chose "Restart"

Windows showed this window (image) ...
win has recovered.png

Before clicking anything I copied this from the Windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down window
Code:

Then another another small window "searching for solution (?)" self dismisses
- then all is normal.

I considered lodging this thread on BSOD forum but instructions there emphatically state "only if BSOD"

When I try to open C:\Windows\Minidump\040415-15069-01.dmp ... "Access denied"
- a padlock on 'Mindump" folder
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-31231-0.sysdata.xml ... I dont know what to do with "sysdata.xml

• Fan is running most of the time Core Temps (x2) are both 42°
• Laptop is 2012 model and has never been cleaned internally
• I think I was opening my mozilla browser at the time of the "unexpected shutdown"

Would appreciate any help as this is my only Windows internet PC:)

Apologies ...

Thanks GokAy :)

My apologies for not responding to your post earlier
For the last 2½ weeks I have had no email nor browser as a result of Installing Kaspersky Internet security on my PCs.
The Toshiba has finally crashed (almost) ... no eMail in or out (even with a fresh install of Windows Live Essentials) ... and a very unstable OS
- I have resurrected an old WinXP Acer laptop (2007 vintage) and Installed Linux Mint on it -- now my only connection with the outside world

BUT the Acer fan is not working and determining the solution has drawn blanks so far because Acer do not have fan firmware for my model
So the Acer blackscreens after about 20 minutes (a complete shut down) --- then a 15 minute cool down and I can start again

A tenuous predicament.

Just gathering my thoughts on what to do next.
- either a clean install of Win7 on the Toshiba (some retailers are telling me the Toshiba is too old)
- or a new Windows laptop $$$
- or resurrect a 2013 rig and replace the crashed HDD
- and the the Acer is just too old to waste time and money on

I am rather disappointed with Linux so far, some of the apps are so antiquated with what I am used to
- Pluma Text Editor is out of the ark
- on Windows I use Metapad360, it is brilliant as a Notepad replacement
But then the Acer's technical limits and the fan problem have been a major irritation

Thank you for reading my tales of woe  :D ;)

Hello Gokhan

I know what you mean "as not old"
- my oldest machine is a 2003 rig with WinXP ... an AutoCad workhorse
- all the others are Win7 (one is SSD + 2 spinners)

We are so busy here with work I am having trouble seeing the wood for the trees
- my beloved in her usual calm way has decided to buy me a new laptop while I concentrate on our clients

I appreciate your feedback

Regards
Russell :)
