Hello,

Please help, computer will not start up sometimes (minidump), BSOD.

It seems to happen once a week where it will not start up the first time, after the BIOS loads it goes to a minidump, and then the computer just turns off. I have to manually power it on again to get it going.

Otherwise once a month it goes to a blue screen of death, and it stays on until I manually shut it down. Sometimes the PC just loads, and other times it will ask if I will want to start Windows normally, or in safe mode.

This is a custom PC that I built, here is my info that I grabbed with the SF Diagnostic Tool, thank you.

OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64, the CPU is a AMD E-350, and the motherboard is a Foxconn AHD1S.

I have one stick of RAM in there, 4GB Samsung PC3-10700 DDR3. The HD is a Western Digital 1TB.

I have swapped out the SATA cables for new ones in case that was my problem, and it exhibited the same behavior. I have two SATA cables in there, one for the LG DVD Burner, and one for the internal WD 1TB HD.

I have ran sfc /scannow in command prompt and it found no errors with the Windows system files.

We need to do some tests here. Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one. Also Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs, too.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Uninstall these factory bloatware.

Attached is a screenshot of the summary tab with Speccy, it does not appear to be running hot.

I have a mini system, so it only has a built in 150watt PSU, but according to the Power Supply Calculator it should be adequate. It has a mobile processor and is meant to be energy efficient.

Here is the system I have:

Foxconn SFF R10-A1 Barebone - Newegg.com

I am in the process of doing the antivirus software changes, and will run memtest.

When you do the stress tests, keep a close watch on your CPU temps and GPU temps. Shut the test down if the temps go too high. I use Core Temp for the CPU. If I am not mistaken, your GPU is on the CPU so I'm not sure how the temps work with that. I would assume they are pretty much one in the same. But MSI Afterburner is a good program for GPU temps. But, your bug check indicated a thermal event, meaning the computer shut down due to over heating. I would think in that event it would be wise to monitor your temps before running the stress tests to get a base line of what is normal. If you are shutting down due to heat during normal usage, a stess test will be too much for your machine to handle, probably. Let's see what your normal temps are.
