PCI Express 3.0 to go final in November

There is also technology that is in the making that using the speed of light to transfer data.

So what happens when it goes beyond that? Will our projects and documents get deleted when we hit "save", forcing us to start over, or will our project/document magically complete and save itself before we even start typing?

Will it render OS X's Time Machine useless?

I read an article the other day but can't find it now. It was a settlement between Intel and the FCC(I think) where Intel promised to support the PCIe bus for 6 years. Apparently they were worried that Intel would discontinue the bus to kill the GPU add in cards since they don't produce any.

Apparently Intel wants to support the integrated graphics that OEM manufacturers use Rather then follow AMD's direction after buying out ATI. Don't forget Intel has their own brand of boards with integrated seen on those as well.

By the time PCIe 3.0 and USB 3.0 and SATAIII get fully implemented in the new chip sets and Windows 8 is released, I will be ready for a new system. Then there is LightPeak by Intel (fiber connection for peripherals).

PCIe 16x whether 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 2.1, or the upcoming 3.0 is the primary display adapter slot while a 1x slot is for things like SLI and Crossfire when a second video card is added in or some of the newer model sound cards and tv tuner cards that utiliize the vacant 1x slot.(as long as the hsf on the card allows for it that is.)

The differences between 3.0gb/per sec. and 6.0gb/per sec. transfer rates are hard drive related there. On most boards now seeing the extra Sata III ports those are typically secondary channels for storage drives over extra Sata II for seeing faster access times for storage devices. Some boards are strictly Sata III.

I'll be waiting to see what the 3.0 bus will be offering when the time arrives for planning out the next build. By then we may even be hearing about a totally new form of bus being developed once the 3.0 has been out a bit.
