PCI Wireless Adapter

I need to buy an adapter for my secondary rig, so that the network between rigs can function on a WiFi LAN. My router says that it will transmit at up to 108MBs, if the receiving adapter will accomodate that much. Therefore, that is the type of card that I want to find, plus that it must be compatible with W7 x64. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Any wireless N card will be capable of doing the 108Mb/s. Remember, there are 4 standards now. A wireless N card will look something like a/b/g/n.

Will N be compatible with my G router? It occurred to me after posting the OP that there is such a thing as Super G, which I think is supposed to run that fast.

I see where it says that it is compatible with XPx64 and Vista x64, so it will probably be compatible with W7 x64, but I would feel more comfortable if that were in black and white. I have an old Lynksis adapter and pcimcia card that I have never been able to use, because I got it about the same time as I went to XP x64, and they never bothered to upgrade the driver for it.

N will be compatible with G, but you won't get N speeds. You will be capped at 64 Mb/s.

Don't worry about the drivers. If the Vista ones don't install, try them in compatibility mode.

If that is the case, I would be better of with a Super G adapter, because it would match the 108MB/s of my router.

Read the reviews on Newegg for that card. I see one guy saying it didn't work with 7, and another saying it works great.

Count them up, see if you want to take the gamble.

So far, I see more guys saying it works with 7 than not.

I've never been much of a gambler, that is why I posted this question before making a decision.

I'd take the chance. Vista drivers almost always work with 7, and if they don't, you have compatibility mode.

There are guys saying it works, so obviously they have the right driver. Who knows, maybe the ones that say it doesn't work got a bad card, and are noobs and don't know how to install drivers.

I'm on 32bit WIN 7 Socket A. Have Belkin G+ Router. Belkin G+ Pci card has always given me trouble esp over distance/weak signal.

Recently bought Linksys(Cisco)WMP600N (in UK these cost £30.00inc post ($50?)
Has two aerials but 3 channels for multi media streaming on 'N'

Download speed on auto 'G' band = 400+kb/s (is that G+ speed?) and even though it shows a 'weak' signal on Win 7 indicator - the MIMO signalling hangs on to it like a pitbull and still has fast speeds at that level!
I have two Asus 7db+(directional) aerial boosters attached too by the way to get thru thick walls of house.
If I had 'N' router (*apparantly signal is far stronger) but i'm waiting for proper 'N' standard ones to come out/down in price.

It's a 'Ralink' chipset on the Linksys & you can get latest Win 7 drivers from their website!
(Belkin pci card + Ralink chip 'G' was a fantastic strong signal wireless card)

I also think you can 'upgrade'(possibly to final 'n' standard) this linksys model with new firmware! Better to email CISCO first as I have never registered/logged in on their website to find out.

You also get a bonus microsoft 'software' repeater for streaming home network to other PC's which 'appears' in device manager next to Linksys card driver (don't know how this works!)
