Ive run a couple of benchmarks comparing Windows XP 32-bit vs Windows 7 64-bit. Shouldn't I be getting better fps in windows 7 64 bit?

Windows 7 64 bit
CSS Stress Test 94.93
HL2 Lost Coast Stress Test 60.78
COH Great, avg 54.9 max 62.1 min 33.5

Windows 7 without sidebar
CSS Stress Test 97.07
HL2 Lost Coast Stress test 62.24
COH Great, avg 55.5 max 61.0 min 3.8 fps

windows 7 32 bit
CSS Stress Test 97.23
HL2 Lost Coast 59.65

Windows XP 32 bit
CSS Stress Test 136.70
HL2 Lost Coast Stress Test 82.59
COH Great, avg 58.8 max 61.0 min 7.0

Both OS are using same exact settings. XP is using forceware 191.07 32 bit, and Windows 7 is using forceware 191.07 64 bit.

Might be because of 3 gigs ram. On 32bit its moderately good, on 64 less so. Plus 32 bit uses less resources. Just a guess

so would it be wise to install the 32 bit version of windows 7 when retail comes out?

You have a decent system. If you are going to stay @ 3 gigs and dont do alot of video editing, or other high cpu uses, I might. 32 uses less resources, less HD space, and can be easier to get drivers for.

64 bit depending on how you use it is faster.

hope this helps

i installed windows 7 32 bit on another partition and the fps is pretty much the same as the 64 bit version. so it seems like windows 7 as a whole run worse than xp for me.

windows 7 32 bit
CSS Stress Test 97.23
HL2 Lost Coast 59.65

when you load css and lost coast, there is a video stress test you can run. and it will give you the average fps after it ends.

LOL I don't think Video stress tests will give you the average of the computer as a whole
It's just how well your Video card is working within the given system
Trust me there's tons of other factors in gaming aside from Video FPS

well......your looking at a 4 FPS difference between all settings listed above, not sure why x64 is slower, maybe x64 dont like you DDR2 400mhz..?? but TBH, your getting an average of 54 FPS on COH with a 9600GT.

that's pretty good. ;)

Do remember that you have a fairly old graphics card. The 9600 card was considered a budget card even when it was released.
