Hi, I scanned using Avast Free Antivirus just now (did a quick scan) and it showed me that I have performance issues. I clicked "Resolve it", but it showed me a pop-up that asks me to purchase Avast Cleanup in order to fix my performance issues. Are there any other good softwares which are free (this is a must) that are good enough to fix my lappy's performance issues? Thanks for answering.

Other than that message, why do you think you have any performance issues whatsoever?

I'm guessing if you saw an ad on TV telling you that you had PC performance issues that the advertiser could eliminate for $30, you would not reach for your credit card.

I have no other evidence regarding this. However, I am merely taking precautions. If there are any good softwares you may be able to suggest, please do :)

"Performance issues" is such a vague and indefinite phrase that it's not possible to say how to attack it. It could concern drive fragmentation, RAM usage, cooling issues, something related to malware, or nothing whatsoever.

That's the way the ad was designed. To not be specific and to alarm you. It has clearly worked.

You are being asked to participate in a poker game. Avast has made a bet equal to the cost of whatever you are being asked to purchase. You have to pay to see Avast's cards.

Or you can say "I don't play poker" and walk away.

I would not tolerate any application or organization that used those tactics. You get to decide if you are offended and what to do about it.

Avast can be replaced easily enough.

What would I do? Nothing at all, other than to replace Avast.

And develop some sense of whether or not I actually had any "performance issues" worth mentioning. Any PC on earth has issues. It's another question whether or not it's reasonable to attack them without regard to cost or the time required.

An honest car mechanic would not tell you to start spending money and replacing parts when you had no issues you could describe.

There are a few problems it specifically states. I'll try snapping a picture asap regarding these performance issues.

I can't read most of that.

Assuming you can, you can certainly do all of that manually should you care to.

Leaving aside whether you'd notice any difference or whether the suggestions are realistic and sensible.

Guess what? If you pay the money and "fix" things and then immediately use another free "performance tuning" application, it would find more "performance issues" that you'd be asked to pay to fix.

Have you ever thought about how many "registry errors" you might have? The horror!!!!

It's advertising.

Do what enables you to sleep better.

I see. In conclusion, those are merely ads to convince me to buy products in order to profit them?

Alright, thanks. However, could you please still suggest em a software that may improve performance of a laptop? A free one that is, and at least a decent one.

In my opinion their is no Tuneup program worth using. It's all snakeware.
One button fixit programs are scams.
To me letting a anti virus program tune up your computer is like going to a butch shop and ask for a vasectomy.

If you want to learn a little about keep your computer running at it's best I recommend reading this tutorial by Brink. A lot of good information.
I don't know of anybody that would need to all the items in the tutorial but it has lots of good information.

It would also be helpful if you filled in your system specs completely.
This tutorial will help you do that.

Alright, thanks. Thanks, Layback Bear. You gave me what I seek for while also offering insights that performance issues if present, cannot be fixed with a single click. I will be reading it. Closing this thread as I've found my answer.
