Persistant STOP: 124 Error

Hi built the family a new rig recently however i seem to be suffering a spate of STOP: 0X00000124 Hardware errors and can not find a way to stop them even after many driver changes. The problem usualy manifests itself during 3D gaming (however it has happened when playing Zynga Poker on FaceBook).

Nothing on this build is overclocked/overvolted at all and the system passes MemTest/IntelBurnTest and Furmark (GPU) all without issue! However 9 times out of 10 will BSOD when gaming. (Mass Effect 2 is the worst offender sometimes crashing within minutes).

All temps are well within exceptable limits at system load and to be honest im more of a "hardware" guy Windows errors i'm afraid go right over my head. It's always the same "system encountered an uncorrectable hardware error STOP: 0x00000124" and it is driving me mad ive tried:

Reinstalling ALL drivers (GPU/MoBo/Sound/Network) and nothing stops it!! I have included a .dmp file of the latest crash (again during Mass Effect 2). I hope someone can help.

Hi thanks for posting a reply not really sure what you mean by "use these to try and work out what it is"? If you mean following the checklist well:

1) no components are overclocked or EVER HAVE been this is a new build (about a month).

2) The system is very well cooled (this was my #1 concern when it was built) the highest CPU temp (Everest) was 47c running Intel Burn Test. The GTX 470 running my custom fan profile (MSI Afterburner) during a long Furmark run will max at 76c.

3) I'm running all the latest drivers i could find for all the hardware.

4) I'm running the latest 1301 04/13/2010 BIOS for my motherboard.

I have ran/used the followin programa (all have passed OK):

Intel Burn Test x64 2.5
Futuremark Vantage
Memtest (bootable ISO)
Built in Windows memory checker
Checkdisk
Prime95.

All of which passed/reported no errors im even running my Corsairs ram underclocked @ DDR3 1333 (default for these sticks DDR3 1600).

5) Windows is updated as far as i know?

6) see above.

7) This is something i would really like to avoid if possible as mentioned this Window install is practically "fresh" as this system was just built and is "as is" nothing has been added/removed hardware wise since completion. I find installing windows easy enough but it is the drivers/gettin it set how i like it take the time. I'm very carefull installing "bloat" software/trialware and try to "keep a clean ship" as it were.

This PC is set up as a kind of HTPC and is used on the family TV and as such can't be "hogged" really by anyone (running countless "boring" tests:sarc: like ME!) so don't really get time to sort this out before someone else would like a go!

Any other help would be very much apreciated.

Sorry to say this but is there NO ONE out there who has the slightest idea at all what is the problem is. I mean there are people on here who clearly have some knowledge of how to make sense of these BSOD's.

To the layman these things make no sense at all. Would it just not be easier for windows just to say "there is a problem with your display driver" instead of STOP:0X00000124!! I mean what use is that to me if it don't:

1) Say what is the cause of the problem.
2) Say how to rectify the issue that "the average joe" can understand ie the end user!!.

All i would like is for someone who knows more than me about these things to give me a "laymans term" answer to the problem i understand people don't get paid for the help they give (i'm grateful for any help)... It may not sound like it but i'm at my wits end with this build nearly any 3D game causes the BSOD now i've done all the things that i would try normally:

1) Uninstall/reinstalled all drivers i could.
2) Ran many memory/cpu/hd "stress test" programs i only got one reply (thank you zigzag3143). Well i've tried everything i can BAR reinstalling Windows again. So if anyone out there can just "cut to the chase" and give me a straight answer i would be eternally gratefull.
