Solved Phantom BD-Drive

Hello,

Ik have a phantom/copied BD-Drive on my pc, it has copied the last entry in my actual BD-Drive, but it hasn't been removed since I unloaded my BD-tray. It is not accessable, formatable or disconnectable. It is not visible in disk management nor in devices. I have also tried local group policy but that did not work either. Is there anyway to remove a disk or drive in an override fashion?

Hello durbatuluk. Welcome to the Forum.

I need to ask some questions:

• So this phantom device only shows up in Devices & Printers?
• The actual Blue Ray optical disk drive - is it an internal drive or an external drive?
• And if you select the phantom drive in Devices & Printers and then click on "Remove Device", what happens? (Nothing, an error message "xxx", or it deletes but then comes back.)
• Is this PC connected to a Local Area Network?

Also have you installed any applications such as Daemon tools/Alcohol/UltraISO/Power ISO or any such applications that can create virtual drives?

Okay I am sincerely sorry but it just magically dissapeared. I did not even reboot or something, I just went out and now it is gone.

My apologies for wasting your time and I am grateful for the help I recieved.

Glad it disappeared and you are happy with it.

But for every action, there is a cause and reaction. The only thing is we don't as yet know the exact cause (and in many cases.)

It may still give us an insight and ponder over it to unravel the mystery, if you can answer some of the queries raised.

a) Was it an internal/external drive b) Is your PC connected to a LAN? (TVeblen's queries)

c)any installed applications such as Daemon Tools/alcohol/ ......etc., (my query)

d)What exactly were you doing with that drive at that point of time, like just playing it, ripping it, creating an ISO ......... with all programs including the player that were in action at that time.

I will answer them as well as I can then.

a) The original BD-Drive is an internal, stock drive.

b) My PC is indeed connected to the internet and a student home LAN

c) I have indeed Deamon Tools installed, however this was the first I checked and unmounted. So I highly doubt this will be the case.

d) I was doing nothing at the time, I had a game-dvd in the BD-Drive and I was cleaning my computer in a software manner. As I encountered the duplicate drive, I took out the dvd of the original drive and later rebooted. After this all didn't work, I went away for a few hours, with my pc turned on but idle and the was gone when I returned.

OK, thanks for the update.

I was ready to pounce upon DaemonTools as the culprit earlier , but after seeing your answers, it could well be that someone else on your network was accessing your PC and running Daemon Tools.

Not a serious issue unless you decide it not so and your LAN is/was intended for such sharing.
