Hey guys, I found it slightly odd that Windows 7 detected my wireless access point (my router, D-link DIR 655) while I was installing the OS, but I find it even weirder how I can connect to it.
What makes it so weird? I have no wireless adapter installed in my computer. The only thing close to that is the piece of junk that came on my motherboard (ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe w/WiFi AP). I have the adapter disabled through the BIOS, the antenna for it is unplugged, and drivers need to be installed for it to work at all anyway.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? I can connect to it just fine and browse the web at full speed, but again, I have no adapter... Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining :sarc:

Phantom indeed however, i need proof of what you're saying. I need screenshots of all your network connections.

If you are not using wireless connection (turned it off etc) it should say not connected. If you don't have no adapter whatsoever, it's not gonna be listed in your Network Connections.

I really like to know how to can access the net with no network connections.

Here are the screenshots. I did a quick search for the Atheros AR5007EG device, and I have no such device installed in my computer. The onboard WiFi chip that this mobo came with is disabled like I said, requires an antenna, and drivers. Even then its a piece of junk.

Here are some screenshots.

I'm pretty sure Atheros is the utility that manages your wireless adapter. Your wireless device has Internet Access in the connectivity column which suggests your adapter is working. There is no way you can get Internet Access without some sort of network connections.

I know that. Search for Atheros AR5007EG in google and go to the Atheros website (first link that comes up). Its a chip. a PCI-Express chip if I am correct.
Im saying I have not installed any adapter.

But you realised there are built-in adapters right?

Look under your laptop, and search for sticker which has 802.11, a/b/g. Not a very sure way but that's one way. The other is in Device Manager.

I am on a desktop PC that I built. In my first post, I said the adapter is disabled through the BIOS, requires an antenna, and drivers to function. Even if I did have it enabled, I would not get any connectivity because the antenna is unplugged and I have no drivers installed for it.

My bad about the laptop/desktop. Ok can u remove the "ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe w/WiFi AP" from the desktop. And then see if you can still connect?

Ps i love x-files and paranormals but not when it comes to troubleshooting in IT.
