PlayStation 3 Owners?

Ahhh, Gran Turismo...That brings back memories, played it all the time when i had my PS1 and PS2,actualy won a dk championship in it

Now i've moved on to Grid, and Xbox 360 :geek:

If you are a gran turismo fan...you should be playing Forza 2 or waiting for Forza 3. They are far more similar in nature to Gran Turismo than Grid. Not that Grid isn't a fun game, but it's an arcade racer versus more of a simulator racer.
I have already pre-ordered Forza 3 :D atm i play most Grid, NFS Undercover (Really one of the best open-world car games ever made!), and GTA IV ;)

I am surprised you do not play Midnight Club at all. :p

Speaking of Gran Turismo, I'm probably the biggest GT Fanatic on planet earth, I got GT1 before it was even released and GT2 ON release day! I beat the entire games multiple times but only played GT3 for short while since my PS2 died and only played GT4 that belonged to friends since again, my PS2 died. BUT! Gran Turismo 5 WILL be in my hands. I had Forza for XBOX and damn, it's CRAP compared to Gran Turismo, one the the most repeitive racing games EVER and no where NEAR the car selection of Gran Turismo. 16 player online here I come! I am shocked that Gran Turismo finally added NASCAR and real WRC races in GT5.

I'm getting the Sony HDMI cable because I like matching brand names LOL. Same thing with using Windows computer, I rarely buy 3rd party hardware anymore, I buy everything Microsoft, like Microsoft mouse, webcam, keyboard, finger scanner, etc etc. Plus I've read reviews while really cheap HDMI cables break loose once you pull on them to disconnect from a system or set. Plus I like the clean look of the Sony HDMI cable haha! Mine is $35 without any tax, Delaware is tax-free shopping wooooo...only nice thing about Delaware... There are 3 other Sony HDMI cables which are $40, $55 and $65 but 2 are rounded style cable, and 2 others are the flat rubber kind which don't really show any difference on the information provided on the boxes so I don't know why they're so expensive compared to the $35 one. Oh, I don't feel like waiting few days just to get a piece of cable from online, and like the feeling of walking into store to return it than sending it back online, which is a reason why I opted out ordering online for the Sony TV.

This is the confusing question I have, straight from the specifications page for my TV:

Video

  • Video Signal : 1080/60p (HDMI™ / COMPONENT), 1080/60i, 1080/24p (HDMI™ ONLY), 720/60p, 480/60p, 480/60i
Does this mean that when I use HDMI 1.3b on my PS3 I'll get 1080p? even thought the native resolution is 720p?

I haven't gotten the TV yet, I'm getting it next week, I just secured my own box since I work at Wal-Mart. Right now I'm using the provided A/V cables for PS3 Slim. Graphics are still amazing on 26 CRT but many texts and words are ****ing hard as **** to read.

Do you rmember using something (a USB device) called "Wire Shark" to up-load your game-save and then downloading to your computer, so the 'judges' could see your race and times?

A 720p tv cannot display 1080p video at 1080p resolutions PERIOD. The TV physically has 720 lines of pixels. There is absolutely, positively no way for it to increase to 1080p regardless of input.

The specs are basically telling you that the TV will ACCEPT a 1080p video input over the HDMI connection. Once your TV accepts the video input, the optics in the TV will simply downconvert it to 720p resolution.

I have a 50" 720p Panasonic Plasma with a resolution of 1366 x 768. Which means that regardless of what input I feed it. (DVD at 480p, HDTV at 720p, or BluRay at 1080p), my TV will always display this at 1366x768...because that's the physical number of pixels that I have on my display.

The slim model comes with 120GB of storage...which means you can alocate alot to linux. As far as I know the slims will run linux too as the slims are running the same FW as the Foremans (Big PS3s).

My issue with linux on the PS3 is that it is SLOW!!!!! I installed Yellow Dog Linux a bit back (which has a distribution designed for the PS3) and I couldn't take it. Things might be different today but who knows

the new slim model comes without the "other OS" option taken out. atleast that's what i've been reading. thats why I got the 40gb model, plus saved me about $100.

there is a few editions of Ubuntu designed to install on the PS3

to me it just adds more usability to me, i was tempted to get a 360, but the PS3 has the edge with upgradable HDD, blu-ray, linux, wi-fi
