PlayStation 3 Owners?

The slim model comes with 120GB of storage...which means you can alocate alot to linux. As far as I know the slims will run linux too as the slims are running the same FW as the Foremans (Big PS3s).

My issue with linux on the PS3 is that it is SLOW!!!!! I installed Yellow Dog Linux a bit back (which has a distribution designed for the PS3) and I couldn't take it. Things might be different today but who knows

the new slim model comes without the "other OS" option taken out. atleast that's what i've been reading. thats why I got the 40gb model, plus saved me about $100.

there is a few editions of Ubuntu designed to install on the PS3

to me it just adds more usability to me, i was tempted to get a 360, but the PS3 has the edge with upgradable HDD, blu-ray, linux, wi-fi

Yea, what's funny is that my PS3 Slim came with Firmware 2.75 and it had the new "PS3: PlayStation 3" logo on startup and had Other OS Option. Once I downloaded and installed Firmware 3.00 the new startup was still "PS3" but no more Other OS.

Thats also a thing I had to decide when purchasing Xbox 360, the Xbox 360 is most likely already maxed out technically, and the bottem line it is MORE expensive than a PS3 with outdated hardware. Gotta add cost for HDD (if you dont have Pro/Elite, but even they matter to since 60GB is $100...), WiFi (doesn't accept WPA2 encryption) $100, Battery packs ($30), HD-DVD .....nothing for it anymore besides games.

Now if you look at PS3, you have 120GB that us upgradable (I'm thinking of swapping my 160GB laptop drive into PS3 and use 120GB in my laptop instead), built in WiFi B/G that accepts WPA2 encryption and DNS settings with Proxy as added bonus, Blu-Ray more space to fit better games onto, Bluetooth controller that charges in 10-15 minutes with a simple USB cord already included. Added bonus to play old PS1/PS2 games on older model PS3 systems with Linux too. Xbox 360 only has limited backward capability for certain "popular" Xbox games. PSN is absolutely free while LIVE is $60 a year that doesn't even include a virtual reality minigame segment (PS Home) but instead has lame colorful avatars that look straight off the Wii. PS3 also includes full Web Browser with Flash/WMA/Java Environment

We have PS1 and 2 ... My husband and son were GranTurismo freaks! Both have steering wheels. Forum Competition was very big at one time. ;)
Ahhh, Gran Turismo...That brings back memories, played it all the time when i had my PS1 and PS2,actualy won a dk championship in it

Now i've moved on to Grid, and Xbox 360 :geek:
Do you rmember using something (a USB device) called "Wire Shark" to up-load your game-save and then downloading to your computer, so the 'judges' could see your race and times?
No i don't, but it was at a convention i won the title. ;)

I had the Shark (just now, in middle of nowhere remembered the official name: "GameShark") device thingy that plugged into the back right corner of PS1 (the big long port with lid covering it), Sony removed the port on later revisions of the phat PS1 and completely on the PSone. I could import cheats, videos, make my own cheats etc. etc. sometimes they worked, other times they didn't. I do miss having it because of the rarity and uniqueness of it.

I have CWCheat prx running under devhook on my PSP. It allows me to run cheats for PSP and PSX games. It is a fantastic app (just hold select during a game to access the cheat menu) which being able to activate/de-activate cheats on the fly AND having the ability to access the memory stick of the PSP while the game is running. The latter is convenient since you can make a cheat and import the database back to the PSP (while playing the game). If the cheat works...great, if not no need to stop playing!

Honestly I could go on all day on the usefulness of this app...the devs get a major applause from me

That;s weird because the press release I read from Sony about "other OS" option is that they took it out of the slim version to save money or something along those lines. I wonder if maybe it's just in the 3.0 firmware then.

When did you buy your ps3 slim? and where from?

Sony took it out because most likely it was using up space on HDD and basically no one used it, so it was pointless. Sony could remove more stuff from XMB like Photo Gallery, Folding@Home, Life on PlayStation, Dynamic Themes (whats the ****ing point of that if only 5 of them you need to PAY for it?) and others.

I got mine on Sept 3rd from Wal-Mart, I'm the first person to have gotten the Slim there and there were 4 boxes but I took the 4th and there are STILL 3 boxes sitting in the locked cabinet while 360 is always empty or 1 box sitting there (not counting Arcade)....There's 4 Arcade boxes while Pro and Elite are selling out everyday.

Just got my PS3 today, ordered a used one off ebay. 40gb edition. Metal gear solid 4 and GTA IV look freaking awesome at 1080p on my 32" LCD and blu-ray looks pretty nice too.

First time actually playing a PS3, Im pretty impressed and wish I would of bought one sooner. Really can't wait till the new Final Fantasy games come out and Gran Turismo 5

What TV do you have? I'm picking up Sony BRAVIA 32L5000 (L-Series) and it's 720p but supports 1080/60p with HDMI which I'm also getting (Sony HDMI cable...Sony FTW!). I'm hoping I'll have enough money on my 2nd ever paycheck to get GTA 4 AND GT5 Prologue, but I know I'll have enough for 1 game just hope I can get 2...because 3 weeks of demos is ****ing boring!

I got a Vizio from Dell
VIZIO Vizio 32" VO320E 720p LCD HDTV

The HDMI input plays PS3/Blu-Ray @ 1080i, but if I have it connected to my PC with the DVI-HDMI connector to play movies, tv shows it's 720p, which is nice because I can use the surround sound on my computer instead of the built in TV speakers which suck other than for playing games.

Check out ebay, or your local gamestop for games, I got MGS 5 for $15 and GTA 5 for $30 plus the guide, they're used but the discs look brand new.

I wouldn't buy GT5 Prologue, I'd wait till the end of this year when GT 5 comes out, the prologue is basically a demo of GT 5

I would never use ebay for anything other than rare stuff I can't get anywhere else anymore. I know about GT5 Prologue, I'm THE biggest Gran Turismo fanboy on earth, if only there were competitions around here, I would probably pwn everyone. But LOL $30 used on ebay, where I could get it $30 NEW at local GameStop here :p. I''m pretty much set on ONLY getting Sony exclusive games like MGS, Killzone, GT, LBP etc. etc. because they are the only games that actually make use of the PS3 power as 3rd party developers have to compromise lots of stuff to be "equal" between lowly extremely outdated Xbox 360 and PS3. Rockstar even admitted that GTA4 was suppose to be like 10x bigger and more realistic than what came to be, but due to the hardware and disc format limitations of the 360, they had to remove and downscale the game a lot.

I get a lot of stuff on ebay, thats how I got my PS3 for $200. Just gotta be careful who you buy from.

GTA 4 looks much better on PS3 compared to 360, the thing I don't like about the game is every TV i've played it on, the game is always really dark and end up having to turn the brightness up a little bit.

I've played ever GT, and really looking foward to GT 5. And looking foward to the Final Fantasy games, even though they'll be on 360 too, the PS3 versions I'm sure will be way better

I've played every GT game as well, even got GT2 a day before official release. Played GT3 a few years after it came out because I could neve find anyone with a PS2 who also had GT3 then I got my own in 2003 for only 6 months, never owned GT4, and don't have any experience with it except for multiplayer. So basically the only experience in GT I have is the 1st generation of them. But I still pwn everyone I come across in it. I'm DYING to get my hands on GT5 P or GT5, I've even been trying to get my downloaded copy of GT HD Concept (1.69GB file) from PS3 Proxy Server on PC onto my PS3 but no luck. I've had Forza for a year and damn, there's absolutely no comparison! The graphics STILL look cheap on F2 and F3! I don't know what's up with Turn 10 and their game designers using super bright colors and awkward looking highlighted headlights/taillights, it looks very arcadey.

GT 4 is def my fav of the series so far. The game had so many tracks, cars, parts, it was impossible to get bored. I don;t think I even got close to 100% either. Im thinking about renting GT 5 prologue just to check it out and see if I should buy it to hold me over till 5 comes out.

I never liked the Forza games, the only other car racing series I liked was NFS, those games are just fun, especially NFS Most Wanted on 360

I know GT4 is so awesome because of multiplayer experience, but I never had a chance to go "in depth" with career mode :(. The thing is though, why do people complain about GT4 so much? but they like GT3?

....mmmm well this IS a "Windows 7" Forum...so everyone on here must own a Xbox or Xbox 360... :p

I'm not..... PS3 FTW! But I agree with the Xbox 360 thing.... I mean in User CP it has an option for 360 Live GamerTag, but no PSN. That's bunk.....,

I put my PSN in with "PSN:" but it isn't showing up anywhere...weird. Anti Sony!

We hate Sony

also the Gamertag thing is for xbox live only ;) But you can get one for PSN too. Its a plugin for vbulletin.

I got Grand Theft Auto IV today for $29.99 at GameStop :D. *jaws drop!* WOWWWWW the ENTIRE city of New York City! I always thought it'd be half-assed version of another GTA3 Liberty City! I was WRONG! This game has simply blown me away on my PS3. The bad thing is though, I'm using 480i so everything is blurry, texts/gps map are almost impossible to read and the interlaced setting is throwing lines across the screen so graphics kinda suck. Can't wait for HDTV on Monday or Tuesday!!!!!
