Please explain Function of the DVD "Drive"

I Googled-searched this, but must not have used the correct terminology, as the answers I got had nothing to do with my questions.

When I drag a folder tree structure (folder, sub-folders, and files) into the DVD "Drive" (the area where it says "files ready to be written to disk"), where and in what form are these files actually at ?

There need be no disk in the drive for these files and folders to be there, yet there they are and there they remain, even through restarts, until I delete them.

Windows frequently will alert me to the fact that there are files ready to be written to a disk.

And, what is the deal with those little blue downward-pointing arrows; what do they signify ?

When I drag 3- or 4-GB of files to this area at a single time, it takes quite some time for the process to complete; and, when I right-click the root folder and choose "Properties, the file/folder and byte count is the same as that of the original source folder; yet, with no disk in the drive, where are all these files actually located ?

My path/location reads a bit different than your's:

1. What do the little downward-pointing arrows signify?

2. If I have, for instance, three entirely different photo DVD projects that I intend to create disks for various friends and family; can I load all three projects in the DVD-Drive and then select the particular project/files that I wish to burn, while the other projects remain in the DVD-Drive folder; thus, if someone I didn't expect says that they would also like a DVD, I can burn another without having to copy them to the drive again ?

3. If I have two physical optical drives, will I then have two entirely different hidden folders that will keep what one drive is doing separate from the other; or, how does Windows handle two separate optical drives ?

The reason I ask is because I have a brand-new optical drive that I intend to install as a second drive.

With this second drive installed, will Explorer then display a different drive letter for each optical drive and I just pick whichever one I want ?

None of the articles I have looked at have been clear on this (and most of the information I have been able to find is dated, as in IDE instead of SATA)

Hi,

1.) Do you mean the one to the left of the Folder? If so, when it's pointing down means that Folder is open. If it points at the Folder it means the Folder has either more folders and or files within it and if you click on it the folder will expand and the arrow will point down to signify that it's open.

Have you tried clicking on the arrow? Can you supply a screenshot?

2.) I would believe you can. You may have to hold Shift while selecting those files then drag them to the drive. Are you using a third-party burning program or window's native program?

3.) Yes you will have two separate folders because windows will automatically assign a new letter for the second drive when you install it; Drive Letter Assignment but you can change it if for some reason you don't like it. Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows
