Please help BSOD issues for several weeks

Hello,

I am having a lot of BSOD issues...sometimes I get a BSOD and other times I get an error message saying Windows has prevented a system crash. This is totally random, I have not had an issue for a couple weeks and then it struck again.

It happens most of the time when I boot Windows, and has crashed randomly other times at which point my PC restarts itself.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? Windows 7 Ultimate N from Technet
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 1 month old
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 1 month old

I just installed these drivers off of ASUS's website.

My motherboard is a ASUS P6X58D-E
My CPU is an Intel I7 -950

Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility V9.1.1.1020 for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)

USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver V2.0.4.0 for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista& 32/64bit 7.

All three were memory exceptions (probably caused by a driver). One way to find out while we wait for more info is to:

1-run a memory test
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.


Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

2-run a system file check

3- check event viewer for logged critical errors

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Thank you ZigZag3143 for your assistance. I wanted to provide you with an update below.

Update: I found 2 things going on in the system that could have been the cause of the issue. First, I noticed that the system was only detecting 4GB instead of the 6 GB I had installed. So I opened the case and reseated all of the memory then turned on the PC. The system then detected the 6GB. However, when I first setup the PC this was not the situation, as it did detect it the first time. The only logical explanation is that a memory stick got loose somehow when I moved my PC from the living room into my room.

The second thing I noticed was that on ASUS's website (my motherboard is ASUS P6X58D-E) they had a BIOS update. While reading through the release notes it said that the update fixes memory compatibility issues with the board. I went ahead and did the BIOS update also.

Since I have done the above 2 tasks, I have not experienced anymore BSOD crashes. I'm not too excited yet since it has only been 2 days since the last one. Once I get to about 30 days of stability I will be happy and declare victory over this BSOD issue.
