Please help me restore windows 7 following failed reset of Windows 8

Hi all,

I'd be really grateful if someone could help out a bit of a novice here..I'd love to avoid having to shell out another £50 to a repair guy and am determined to fix this myself this time!!

I have a Packard Bell laptop that came with Windows 7, which I then upgraded to Windows 8 as I was offered a discounted upgrade by MicroSoft about 2 years ago when W8 launched.

My system seemed to be screwed recently so decided to store my important files and then opt for a full system re-set on windows 8. This got so far then failed after about 5 hours of processing.

When I switch on my machine now, the only viable option is to reset my pc and it asks me for my windows installation or recovery media. (Hope the screenshot attachment shows this)

Microsoft have been USELESS and cannot find any record of my paying for the windows 8 update so cant help me. All I have is the windows 7 product key on the bottom of my laptop. I do not have any CD back up discs etc.

My question is : how can I re-install windows 7 using this product key from the screen shot below??

PS - I did download what I assume is a back up of windows 7, via this address:

http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-58997.iso

However when I store this to flash drive and insert into the USB of the machine, it says"invalid media".

Looks like you downloaded Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

You need to make a bootable flash drive using a program to take the .iso as input and write it to the flash drive in the correct format.

• Download and run Universal USB Installer Easy as 1 2 3
• Select Windows 7 from the first drop down list, all the way to the bottom
• Select the downloaded Windows 7 iso file
• Select your USB flash drive
• Click Create

When done you have a bootable flash drive you can install Windows 7 from.
