Hi Guys, I built this (new) computer about 3 weeks ago. It all started well, but then I started getting freezes and BSOD, but determined that they were due to my SSD as many others were reporting similar issues. I fixed this by moving the SSD to a sata2 port and everything was great for a week. Now I'm getting BSOD again and not sure what is causing it.

Build is:
i7 2600K
Asus P8Z68 V-Pro
Asus DCII 6970
Gskill Ripjaws F3 8GB
Corsair AX-850
Corsair Force 3 Series 120GB SSD
Running Win7 Ultimate x64 (full retail I think)
(All hardware and OS is no more than 4 weeks old.)

I have overclocked slightly (using the auto overclocking software provided by MB) but PC ran well overclocked for a while before issues occurred so I don't think this is the issue.

I have run memTest for 1 pass and all was well. When I get time I will run it for much longer.

I have had about 6+ BSOD over the last 2 days. They often occur when starting a game, after getting through all menus and just as the level/race ect is about to begin. It also occurred a number of times when web browsing and watching TV shows (win media player) through the network.

If anyone could provide any thoughts on what is causing it/ which piece of hardware I need to look into it would be much appreciated!

Cheers

HI day1118 welcome to SF :)

All your minidump poits to atikmdag.sys, this is ati graphic error.

So please for first step, uninstall ati software/driver.

Download and install only the driver (not the catalyst) AMD Graphics Drivers & Software

Also remove DAEMON Tools Lite because is source of bsod.

And use this Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

Thanks heaps for your help. I have removed DAEMON Tools.

I will do what you suggest re ati software tomorrow, but are you suggesting I should run without catalyst?
Normally this would not be an issue, but as I am using 3 monitors (eyefinity) catalyst is what allows me to use either 3 separate screens for general use, and 3 as a single large screen for playing games.

Thanks

Try first without the catalyst, wait and post back with any results for further instructions.

Or you can try first without the catalyst and then try with the catalyst installed.

The important is to find and eliminate the bsod source.

Thanks, the only problem is I am yet to work out what is causing it, so may not trigger it again without the software installed (Hence I ran memTest for a while and tried to let the CPU temp creep up a little to see if they would do it!) but now I know its graphics I will see what I can think of that I can do to force it again.

Any thoughts?

In this order,

Try without catalyst,wait for results.

Try with catalyst wait for results.

Thats it :)

I have not yet tried removing catalyst, but just ran furmark a few times and noticed that every time it BSOD, the GPU temp was 65.5, 65.5, 68.0 and 73.0. (All Degrees Centigrade)

The fans on the GPU were only running around 15%, so for the final test (73.0) I set all fans to 100% and let the test run without a BSOD (for about 2 mins, normally enough to produce BSOD), then turned fans back to auto (slowing them significantly) and once temp reached 73 it BSOD again.

From what I saw on the web these cards should be able to run at as high as 100-110 (but I will never run anywhere near that and don't even like that its at 70!)

Tomorrow I will remove catalyst and repeat tests, but do you think this is relevant?

Thanks for all of your help!

The order is important!! :)

Common sense,if the software/drive causes bosd it want let you try anything!!

So,

A) Try without catalyst, wait for results.

B) Try with catalyst wait for results.

C) Test the card with the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html

Ok lets make it simple, try only without the catalyst, work, play as usual and post back the results and we continue from here :)

Thanks, the only problem is that I can't play without catalyst as I have no way to make the PC display accross all 3 screens, but I will remove everything, reinstall drivers and use it for work and furmark and see what happens & report!

Thanks

So I removed all ATI software and then re installed the drivers only (v11.6) I then ran furmark a number of times and all went really well! Hit temps of as high as 80C without any BSOD and could run for as long as I wanted without an issue.

I then came to post the results and in the middle of writing it BSOD again!

I have re-performed the instructions in the BSOD posting, and attached the results. Can you please confirm what device caused it?

I might try moving back to v11.5 and see what happens.

Thanks

Edit: Just had a number of BSOD and can't attribute a reason, sometimes running furMark, sometimes running memTest and sometimes doing nothing at all (idle)

I have attached the details of these BSOD in report 4. could you please confirm whether these also point to GPU/Catalyst? I am still running driver only (no catalyst) with v11.6 driver. Will move to v11.5 now.

Thanks
