The easiest way is to hide them. First you need to find out what they are and if they are important (do they say critical, important, or optional)

If they are not critical then you can go to them in the download list and right click and "hide" them. Once hidden they wont be downloaded.

Hello!

Good attitude! We are always trying to drill that into people!

There is no really specific fix for this, unfortunately. However, my first port of call would be for you to run this FixIt: How to determine whether a computer is compatible with security update 977165

It does not actually fix anything, but the final page will say whether you are compatible, or incompatible with this update. Please tell me that result as well.

Can you also please look at your Windows Update history, and tell me whether they repeatedly succeed, or repeatedly fail, as this will influence the next step.

Thanks!

Richard

+1 for the previous post, and another for the OP wanting to have security updates installed! I'll add my two cents - if an update really is failing over and over, the steps to take are to stop the Windows Update service, download the update package manually, attempt to install it, and then compress and upload your cbs.log file in \Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log (you may have to zip or rar it to compress it down to a reasonable size). After that, feel free to restart the WU service.
