Are you just downloading or are you using a download manager?

Why is a download manager necessary?

Is there any way i can fix this?

Hi and welcome

Your only solution is to add ram. 2 gigs is barely enough especially if you are running 64bit. Ram is cheap.

the other thing you can do is to download in smaller chunks. What browser are you using?

Your anti virus is causing this problem. It's been an ongoing problem with certain systems and certain AV's, Eset, AVG, Avast, all seem to have their fair share of memory leaking problems but it only seems to occur on certain systems.

I download stuff on my old P4 machines with only 767MB memory and have no memory leak problems at all, never use it all, so I don't think it's a memory limitation.

I have changed the power plan from maximum performance to power saving and now when i leave my PC downloading it goes to 68% of RAM usage. Anyway 68% with no programs running doesnt look normal.
i dont know what program is eating the RAM.
Here is a screenshot of the running processes if anyone can tell me who is using that much RAM.

And about the antivirus i have never had any RAM problems with eset and its the best antivirus i know.

I also use ESET SS4 and never had any issues with it. I also use Firefox and know they still have some memory issues so what I would recommend is to close as many tabs as you can before leaving your computer while it is downloading and that should help out quite a bit. Also Is your Firefox up to date and what download manager are you using ? Try downthemall and flashgot with linkifacation plugins for Firefox. As for the RAM issues, I would not be too concerned unless it is slowing down your system. Basically the more RAM you have the more RAM your system will use. I am not saying 90% usage is normal either but you will probably need 4 GB with X64 before you can expect there to be any significant free RAM at any given time.

The Op made no reference to my post which contained the correct answer. I think giving some credit to the one who actually solved the problem would have been nice.;)

It would be nice if everyone who received help said thank you, and yes, to not do so is rude. However, equally rude is to publicly point that out, but really, that's not the case here at all since that the OP did say "thanks". Admonishing him for not naming you specifically, imo, makes us all look bad... and is a bit self-serving.

So, to rectify this: chev65, thank you.:)
