Are you using an 'en-us' version of windows or is it a chinese or russian version with an 'en-us' language pack installed? if you are then maybe the lang pack is playing up.

If it's not the above, check your 'Keyboards And Languages' settings are set to your correct location/language, this can be found in "Control Panel->Region And Language->Keyboards And Languages".
(Note: 'English (US)' has slightly different key setups to 'English (UK)' etc...)

... that may be a problem... you shouldn't have to close explorer.exe... If I remember correctly back in WinXP that would screw up everything unless you restarted lol.

Did you do a clean install?

EDIT: yeah... I tried it and it's the same as WinXP. If you do end task on Explorer.exe you lose the task bar and icons and everything... So idk what you mean by "close explorer.exe"

Just curious, I'm not calling you foolish though. However, what is the purpose of disabling UAC? I mean theres nothing wrong with it, but wouldn't it be a little... risky? Not to mention as far as I know there is no amazing Anti-virus of W7 so if something tried to install something to your computer, it could get through without you knowing couldn't it?

I mean it's your choice and I'm not calling you foolish, I just want to know for what reason you disable it?

a good question that i don't have a definitive answer to...

1 - maybe due to bad experience in the bad old vista days
2 - i had issues with punkbuster and other software, and i found disabling uac helped
3 - i have a good av solution, kaspersky 2010, and i like to think i'm careful what i download and run
4 - less services/processes running means a snappier system
5 - i get a thrill from living dangerously ;)

i don't advise anyone else to do as i do, it was a personal decision.

This is the way it is supposed to be. I don't get that either when I run something as admin.
UAC in Seven is reduced. If you were to run the program as Admin from a non-admin account, you would get the prompt. But since the default account is an Admin, you don't. That is how it was designed. Makes for much less prompts.

please someone help me because im probably going to end up getting some sort of a virus

:(
You will be fine. I know lots of people who have no AV and UAC off, and they have NEVER gotten a virus.
Just be careful (and don't search for anything that would get viruses ;))

if u solve my problem, ill rep u 3 times :)
First off, you can't. Second, don't. That would be an abuse of the Rep system.

I never used vista xD I stuck with WinXP pre-sp1 (until like 4 months ago, then i got sp1 and 2 lol)

The rest I kinda figured, and yes I have kasperky as well, and I like it. (Minus I have it set so I get prompts for everything. ex: ip_3958sdfasf9381-f is attempting to access the registry), so I get a few hundred prompts a day; I like it that way though.

And I used to get a thrill from living dangerously, and I used to not be careful, and then I turned up with like 3000+ viruses (like 6 years back). Since then i AM careful, I'm sure of it lol

I had that happen from an unfortunate click on a bad ad..... That was a while ago though.
Haven't had it happen since. I was just more careful.
