Dear all,

I'm having trouble connecting one of my laptops to my router. I've tried connecting using the dsl cable and wireless but neither work. The internet and router are both working fine (i'm using it right now from my work laptop).

I have windows 7 and everything was working fine last night. I then installed AVG free antivirus and I've not been able to connect since.

Can anyone help suggest any way of fixing this? Is there a way of resoring all settings to 24 or 48 hours previous? My technical knowledge of computers is very small so any help whatsoever would be gratefully received.

Thank you,

Tom

Hi Tom and welcome

Since this problem started after AVG the simplest method would be to uninstall it. If you do and it doesnt go away you can always reinstall avg laterKen

If that doesn't work, maybe try doing a system restore.

Thanks for the responses... I've uninstalled AVG and attempted to do a system restore to my previous checkpoint but neither have worked. It's bizarre, although everything is working correctly, my laptop just cannot connect to the router.

Is there a way of starting from scracth again as if I were connecting to my router for the first time?

Thanks for the responses.

Absolutely. There should be a reset button on your router. After you reset the router, connect to it using cable connection, and to it's control panel using IE ie. http:\\192.168.1.1 (or whatever default IP it is for your router). Logon is username=admin, password= blank (or whatever it is for our router model). Once you are in, setup security for your router, and then create your wireless network.
