So the maximum power of the PSU has no relevance to how much power the PC is using. I didn't know that at first. Thanks alot for clearing that up. Every time I went to Best Buy or talked to somebody somewhere, they told me that I have to get a UPS that is equal to or greater than my PSU. I almost did it, and paid way more. Now I know that's a bunch of BS. I had a feeling there was something wrong with that which is why I created this thread to find out.

I'm going to go with the 600W, and see how it runs.

If you are asking about the unit that seekermeister recommended, I say yes. Good choice.

That is a reliable unit & not only does it have great software (PowerChute), it also has a display on the front that will show runtime, input voltage, load on the unit, etc. - without having to use the Powerchute software.

It will handle your setup with no problem. I currently have an older APC RS 1500. My power supply is 500 watts, 4 hard drives, Nvidia 9600GT graphics card, 2 optical drives. My monitor & some other peripherals are also connected to the UPS. My powerchute software states that I have 190 watt load on it. It will handle up to 865 watts. My runtime based on a 190 watt load is 46 minutes.

It does matter. I have 650w power supply and I had a 400w Belkin ups and it kept shutting my pc down when gaming. So I bought an APC XS1500 ratted at 865 watts and no problems.
So your 600w should be adequate. I noticed when gaming I use roughly 350-360 watts. So it was bumping the old UPS. So if you don't game at all you shouldn't run into any issues. But if you do any thing that will drive the wattage up it will cause an issue if the ups isn't rated for the wattage you're running.

The only time that it might push the wattage on a 600 watt UPS is when first powering on, if everything is powered on at once, and I seriously doubt that it will. I leave everything on my rig powered, and I have never seen it exceed 300 watts, and more often than not, somewhat less.

1. So my PSU is 850W. Not that there is any relevance as it can be a million, but has nothing to do with how much power my PC is using.

2. I'm using 4 580GTX cards. SSD drive. Regular HD. Blu-Ray Drive. i7 processor. Possibly installing watercooling.

3. Considering my build, I concluded that a 600W UPS will be adequate.

is this a typo? if not then that 850watt may be to small and the 600watt UPS is too small.

Unless you live out in the middle of nowhere, you may consider buying the UPS locally - at a place that has a good return policy. Get the 600W, make sure it is fully charged, and see what kind of load or runtime you have while you're maxing out the hardware. If the UPS's load is too much or near capacity, take it back & get a higher capacity model.
