I changed my password and now am unable to log back on to Windows 7 Home Premium.

Luckily I made a standard account without needing a password but I need to have access to the Admin account also.
Every password I could've made I tried and none of them work. It may have been changed by someone else.

I created a backup disc but without that Admin password I can't do anything to restore the system to an earlier state or make a password reset disk.

I am using a Sony Vaio laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't really know what else to do.
Should I just try and reinstall Windows 7?

It looks like I have to have a CD to perform the last resort option.
I didn't see a cost for this, as I do not have the CD.

I know there is a way it can be done for free I just can't remember how.

That's the method I was looking for.

Jessie,

Other than the cost of a blank CD/DVD, it's completely free.

I downloaded the password/registry editor onto a cd but when I went to open the application file, the screen turned black in the corner in a little square, then nothing.

Am I doing something wrong?

You should be booting from the disc and using a *nix based interface to either brute force (password attack) guess the old password or set a new password.. ?

Big Problem resetting admin pw

I don't have the admin password on a windows 7 home premium os and got a little help here and made a iso boot disk from the offline registry website.

The instructions say to just keep pressing enter at the prompts which worked for step one but not at step two.
I entered what it said to enter (system 32/config) and it just ignored it and asked the same question. This choice was listed as one of the answers also.

Also at the beginning of the boot it said in big bold letters cannot reset admin password.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong and really need help with this asap. I have a class project due monday and I need to install a program on my computer and without access to the admin acct I can't do this.

Thanks.

Step 2 not working

I tried to offline boot disk and the instructions say to keep pressing enter at the prompts. Step one worked but at step two enter did nothing. I entered what the instructions said to enter, system 32/config, and it ignored it and asked the same question.

Also at the very beginning of the start up screen it said in big bold capital letters, cannot reset ad password. Does this mean it won't work.

I'm really at my wit's end with this, as I am not in any way a computer wiz, and need this done by Monday for a school project.

Thank you for your help.
