Right click the desktop, select personalize. Look to the left and click mouse pointers. Then after setting up the pointers save it as a style then towards the bottom of the box it should say something like "let themes change my cursors" UNCHECK that. Should work hope i helped

JD had it right it's just that I use a different route (thru' Control Panel) to get to the mouse properties screen(s).
Off the top of my head, I'm assuming you clicked apply before exiting the mouse properties window?
To make sure you've saved your cursors theme, open regedit (Windows key and R, then type in regedit) and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Cursors\Schemes and it should be listed there. If it's not, you ain't saved it, and it will restore the defaults on re-boot. In fact, export the registry entry for later use, saves all that "picking" cursors if you ever re-install.

Thanks man.... ill update you on the result... but i think it will work coz it is there and the .cur files have the same properties as the aero cursors so fingers crossed... it was saved in that reg dir but it was in a different folder so i just reassigned the theme the cursors that i put in the folder... thank you...

That solved the problem

Yeah it turns out that the cursors used for the cursor theme were in another folder... not the cursor folder.... so it couldnt load them on boot up... go figure...
