Possible spam related issues on my IP address

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to talk about some issues that have started occurring over the last week. It started about two weeks ago. I recieved an email from my own account. Clearly, it was spam. It advertised that I was a woman, from the middle east and looking for a chat on Skype. It was sent from my own email address or someone spoofing the email. I doubt they could access my email account anyway, so I'm going to assume it was spoofing. This happened for a few days, but this email wasn't sent to people in my address book, nor did it send it to many people. (4 max).

I contacted my ISP and informed them about the issue. I wanted to be on the safe side and not end up on a black list. Today, things seem to be getting even worse. I sent two emails to the Government today, they where both sent back to me with the reason saying, "spam detected". To make matters worse, Google has asked me to enter a capture three times in the last five or so hours on the basis that it has detected "usual traffic" on my IP address.

I then again checked several websites to find out whether my IP is on the black list. It doesn't appear to be.

Now other then contacting my ISP I have run numerous scans.

- Norton360 (Live)
- Malwarebytes (on-demand)
- Norton Power Eraser (on-demand); and
- TDSSKiller (on-demand).

Nothing at all was picked up. What do you think about this?

perchance are you on a wireless network? or have a wireless router that could be open and allowing others to use your IP to do strange things?

Hello and thanks.

I do have a wireless connection, however I have the strongest encryption enabled. I also change the router password every six months.

I've had this happen to me after having my ISP issue me a new IP address. The new IP I was issued was a duplicate address used with a stolen/modified cable modem to run a TOR node. Have you contacted your ISP and asked them to issue you a new IP to see if the problem persists?

An easy way to tell if the e-mail you received was indeed spoofed is by looking at the complete header.
