Yes, I´d like to get rid of it (WIN XP) so that it does not occupy any space. Any suggestions for a safe way to delete it totally, so that I don´t make a blunder again?

First promise me you do this!

Do this in Windows 7 every time you modify the start point of partition (so also now)!

System Protection - Turn On or Off
Disable it for drives, even ghost drives listed there. Then enable it on C drive as described in point 7.
7. To Turn On System Protection for System Settings and Previous Versions of Files
You can also create a manual restore point in same dialog. Do it after adjusting settings.

Disk Defragmenter - Open and Use
On disk defragment page you can set a schedule. Modify it, because most likely is out of balance due to ghost drives.

In what is called C now...

boot.ini, ntldr, ntdetect.com are in C:\
Open elevated command prompt:

c:
cd \
[COLOR=red]now for each file[/COLOR]
attrib  -h  -s  boot.ini
del boot.ini

not realy needed!! files are small!

You have easeus partition manager? If so:
Delete the partition that is type: logical and DOESN'T have label WIN7.
Using EaseUS Partition Master - Deleting Partitions - EaseUS Partition Master Manual
Then move/resize the remaining partition to the size you want and to the starting point you want (most likely beginning of disk)
Free resize/move hard drive partition, enlarge/extend/shrink system partitions in Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7/8 and Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 - EaseUS Partition Master Manual

Tell me if you're doing it.

The last 4 lines of output show
device unknown. That's old stuf. isn't used. No problem.

There's another line with device unknown. It belongs to EASEUS todo backup. Still using that boot menu entry? It doesn't work now!

You can move/resize without problems (it does my regedit trick and updates the boot menu automatically).
But "partition copy operation" will give you the same problem as you had!
