Inspired from a discussion with Golden.

as the title says, post your first post or Thread, many of us came here as noobs and have come a long way, here's mine (1st thread)

   Tip

to find your first post, click search/advanced search, type your username in the search by username box,then in the "find posts from" a year or older (if your join date is older than a year!),then "sort results" in ascending order then ,search now to find the results.

Ok, i love this feature where w7 recognizes my hardware and adds icons to match ,however not all my products model numbers are available thus rendering the feature useless for external h drives etc.
Question:- is is there any way to give the system this information or to change the default icons manually?

With the current stagnation of performance requirements in today's games i reckon you won't go wrong with a 9500GT.. just be prepared to play at a reasonable resolution if you want to max out the other settings with minimal AA/0 AA.. We have current generation consoles to thank for this predicament, but as a result being a PC gamer no longer means having to upgrade that graphics card every year to enjoy the latest. Heck, owners of 8800 class cards most probably had the best lifetime for their cards ever.. made in 2006 and still capable of running the latest games with decent settings without performance issues... With only 2 -3 odd games requiring DX11.. DX10 cards are still a good buy...

This is my first one, and no one answered it for me, but I did find my own answer and posted it

I have a Desktop with XP & ubuntu 8.04 (dual boot) & Laptop with Window 7. From the laptop I go to Networking & Sharing Center then to See full map I see the desktop when I have XP going I do not need a password to enter XP it but with ubuntu I need to enter a password each time I restart the laptop even if I check Remember my credentials is there a way so I do not have to enter a password each time? When I had Vista on this laptop I did not need a password.

Windows 7 64bit or 32bit on old Laptop I am new to this forum and looking for some opinions. I recently built a new desktop and installed Win 7 64bit and it was a walk in the park. So now I am going to upgrade the wife's laptop. It is a HP Pavilion zv6270us. It has a Athlon 64 3500+ at 2.0GHz with 2GB DDR PC2700 Cl 2.5 333mhz memory. I dual booted Win 7 RC 64bit to test and had a few driver problems since HP won't support this unit for Win 7. I was able to use some Vista drivers with a hack to get the sound working. Only thing not working is the Fax Modem which I never use. We use the laptop for E-Mail, Web browsing and wife is addicted to "Bejeweled 2" which runs fine under Win 7 64.
I was thinking of installing Win 7 32bit and wondering if 64bit was worth the effort as far as bootup time and performance. I was thinking 32bit might have better drivers and might even perform better.
All opinions welcome and thanks in advance.

I found a different web page to start the process.
I didn't know this was even here.
Everything was fine until I reached your Method 2- Step 7.
The other site forgot to include this so Easy BCD won't open.
After a few choice words and the mandatory Google search I thankfully found your article.
Read it from end to end found the errors of my way Method2- Step 7 and it WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!

We now have dual bootage.

Nice to be new here. OK here is my 1st. This has been driving me NUTS - for over a year!

I have W7 - 64. Every time I open a window in explorer, >> any window <<< - the columns resize to some narrow size, like 2 inches. So I can only see the 1st column [Name]. Does not matter what window I open: music folder, my computer, a folder on my hard drive - it does this annoying as hell resize 100% of the time.

So every time, I must expand [drag] the columns so I can see all the folder navs tabs [Date/Type/Size etc]. I searched online about this many times and found nothing. This never happened on XP or Vista etc.

I ran Malwarebytes pro + AVG + CCcleaner thinking maybe it was a virus. Maybe I have a special "Bill Gates drives me nuts" edition of windows.

Anyone else going through this ordeal?

Hi folks. What I use to read temps is a infrared thermometer with a little red dot. I have been on line since before daylight and my power supply is 23.9 deg c the fan blowing out is at 22.5 deg c. The little red dot doesn't know how to lie. You can use it to check temps of many things in a PC and compare them with what ever program you are using.

Had a system image restore issue with http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html?ltr=B. Every time I restored my image, it would also restore the system restore points, but they would no longer be seen as restore points or through the shadow list. After much help from Shawn (Brink) and Wolfgang (whs), SFC /SCANNOW resolved the problem in the end.
