Under the stress heavy test sessions 90, 91 (cores 1 and 2 hit 100 and 101 only because I left things get a bit toasty) but other than those few and far in-between tests, the temps were low to high 70's into low to mid 80's.

1.3 in BIOS, 1.368 under load. That's with LLC set to Extreme. Something I still need to read up on because as I understand it higher = more leveled voltage reading (i.e. closer to what you've actually set).

As I understand it, That's correct about LLC, but it is supposed to allow for higher Overclocking frequency, but the downside is higher temps.

I read a guide by a guy on the Gigabyte overclocking team. He listed overclocking voltages, but he says that it has to be in a lower temp situation. From looking at his figures, I'd like to know what cooler he is using, LN2? This is on a 3770K and voltages and temps required. Higher temps makes th OC more unstable. Go figure.

Using LLC reduces Vdroop - the drop in core voltage that the processor encounters when under load. If you are running at a fixed Vcore and not using offset mode, then you need to set your core voltage to the actual core voltage needed when running under load + Vdroop, with the consequence that when you are idle or not under load, your voltage will be higher than needed. LLC compensates for Vdroop letting you set the core voltage nearer to what you need under load so that the voltage at idle and load are closer together, reducing the voltage you need at idle.

However, INTEL design takes advantage of the droop to protect against voltage spikes when load suddenly changes. When you use LLC this is defeated and your processor is more susceptible to damage from transient voltage spikes when load changes.

IMO you should only use LLC if you have to to get to a satisfactory overclock and probably should avoid using it 24x7. Also, if you use offset Vcore in conjunction with EIST/C states, then voltage will be lowered during idle and you don't need the LLC to compensate for a higher idle Vcore. So avoid it by these means if you can IMO.

BTW, I don't see how LLC leads to higher temps. You end up running at the same Vcore under load, but a lower Vcore while idle - if you tune it right. This means lower temps on average.

It used to be that EIST and the C states affected OC ability so they often needed to be turned off and hence using an offset for the core voltage didn't pay off in terms of reducing idle voltage. However, with the second gen Intel processors and beyond, enabling EIST/C states don't adversely affect OC ability.

Thanks. I woke up early this morning and it was freezing so I thought I'd take advantage of it and try it out. Still want to get it stable enough to run Aida64 for an hour to check temps.

I think I can get it even higher with the ambient temp being so low at the moment. The CPU was @ 16c when I did this so I'm waiting on another cold morning to get it to do an Aida64 run

I run mine pretty much @ stock for 24/7 use. I only OC when I get the urge to see how high I can go or want to test my cooler (like if I add/change fans)
