There is a certain extra "snappiness" to everything, though. I'll be the first to admit that that could be the placebo effect in action.

With my 1336 rig, there was a certain level of 'perceived' snappiness between stock and OC'ed outside of games.

No idea about this 1155 rig though - I only ran it stock long enough to install windows.

In CPU intensive games however, every frame helps - so the OC stays It's particularly noticeable in un-optimized apps/games where brute force can compensate for poor coding.

A Guy, Here's different score of each cpu clock ( simple benchmark through AIDA64 ).

note : * neglect cpu clock on AIDA table since there's wrong reading with cpu clock of 4,5 Ghz ( 2nd 3 picts ).

3 first picts is when cpu running 3,3 Ghz / default clock, while the other 3 running OC 4,5 Ghz.

in cpu queen and cpu Zlid, i5 2500K OC to 4,5 Ghz ... just to keep up with i7 2600 non K ( default ), which price gap around 60-70 $, while in cpu photoworxx i5 2500K running 4,5 Ghz supasses i7 2600.

I'm aware that by the numbers an OC will benefit in certain instances. That wasn't really my question. I just wanted to know if anyone "felt" the difference. I have such a mild OC (with Turbo and all energy savings on), that I know I wouldn't feel it, but with the high OC you lot have D), I figured there may be a noticeable feel. A Guy

I tend to agree with everyone else.
For the most things, it doesn't help much.

But, in any instance where the CPU start to work hard, Video Encoding or CPU dependent games, there is a difference.


I think users that use the PC for activities such as:
Facebook/Facebook games, browse the internet, check email, watch youtube videos etc.... OCing is probably pointless.
Especially if the only real benefit is .. "Oh look what score I have"


But for PC gamers, and Media encoding etc .. YES, there are certainly gains to be had.

I OC for the 2 reasons above, as well as simply enjoy doing it.

I let Lynx to run 20 times, with no oc on my computer. These are the results.



I have stock cooler, and one 12 fan added on side case. So, why I think that I won't be able to run 24h test with no overclock, so where is with the oc...

I believe the TJ Max is 100c for your CPU. You reached a max temp of 57. I'd think getting over 70c would start to be a concern. If it approached that with an OC, you'd be looking for a better cooling solution if you regularly pushed it. A Guy

You mean like the 79C I hit after an hour of Prime95 at these settings?

Apparently my new ASUS board will automatically adjust your core voltage for you - not always in a conservative way, either. If I can figure out how to limit that to something a little less scary I might try for 5GHz.

Believe me that others will say 80c or even higher. I just wouldn't want to see those temps on anything but a torture test run. I think a high of 79c on such a test, when you will likely never approach it in normal use, wouldn't be such a concern. A Guy

Yeah, that didn't freak me out nearly as much as the voltage. Most people I've talked to say that anything much above 1.35 for everyday use is pushing your luck.

nice achievement profdlp, i guess you'll still have adequate headroom to decrease vcore.

Here's my 2500K at 5 Ghz I did some weeks ago, unfortunately I had to stop at 3rd loop of IBT since temp core #2 reached 81C with Corsair H60.

I am going to have to keep trying different combinations. I've decided that if I can get a 50% overclock (5.1GHz) I'll declare victory - and hopefully regain my senses.

They seem a bit warm but not dangerous. From what I find your max Tcase temp is 74.1C and your max temp would be just a bit higher. I think you can give an overclock and keep an eye on temps.

EDIT: From Bill's info you are just fine at stock speed with those temps. I'm a wildman and I'd no be too concerned unless your temps would get to 75C. Like he said that is a stress test and normal use will be a lot cooler.
