Thanks for the answer guys, I think that Speccy does not have good sensors... BIOS temp is same as SpeedFan/AIDA...

Anyway a quick test from AIDA again...

Same old 4.6ghz now using -.030 offset and culling more AUTO voltage settings. So far it's netted me a nice 10c drop across the cores during testing. A nice 'summer overclock' if you will...

There's no doubt in my mind I could sail past 4.6; but I'm having more 'fun' lowering voltages rather than going for max clock speed.

Thanks mate. After a succession of high VID/volt hungry chips, this is turning out to be quite a pleasant change. So too is keeping all power saving features on as well

It is. And nice volts.

I just had a crack @ 5ghz and it boots, but freezes under IBT and the core temps hit over 90c - abort.

Tweaking might make it stable with less volts/temps - but I think I might settle for a lower speed and a lot less volts.

At least I had my first x124 BSOD with this build - it felt like OCing again

5.0Ghz was up and running but lasted in IBT for about ... 10 seconds before BSOD.

I just let it be for now as I didnt want to go over 1.4v


Although, it may be easier if I just disable hyperthreading ... hmmm

I managed to finish the second run IBT @ maximum before it froze. I saw the vcore spike to 1.424 - very much over my current personal limit :shock:

Between that and the 90c+ core temp I quickly called it a night. So much for 'sailing past 4.6ghz', lol

(I might have to reseat my cooler and get some better paste I think)


I dare say you'd have better luck if you temporarily disabled hyper-threading. Since I don't have it, I'm pretty sure that's how I'm getting away with a low vcore @ 4.6ghz

No, you don't have to be crazy to overclock, but it helps a lot.

I guess Ive lost some that adventerous spirit with OCing. My new build I decided not to exceed 1.4 Vcore no matter what ..

Yet I still find myself wanting to try anyway. LOL
And probably will before long, once the urge to try trumps my willpower.
