cheers chap i'll try the changes u suggested. ive already set my ram timings so its running at 1600 but it did get defaulted to 1066 at first. again! i thought this would'nt happen as the fx cpu's memory controller supports upto 1800. oh and xmp is an intel thing :D another thing i learned off u lot :D

thanks for ur help yet again lol. seven forums ftw. ive learned sooo much ere :D
this cpu has proppa pickled me tho lol. ive come real close to takin it bk out but i like the temps it runs at and ive read some ok things about it. as for temps, according to the core temp forums all amd chips since the athlon have an offset in core temp by 10 to 15c. strange that as this is the only one ive had an issue with and the offset turned out to be 12c. core temp also changed its mind on what the cpu is called. i cant remember what its first name was but now its processor BE :O
right i'll go try those settings. thanks again

I just wish AMD could build a board that works for Gary

Out of curiosity what board are you Use-ing

If it is the one in his specs,

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-880GA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

it could be the cause of most of his problems. That board was never designed for AM3+ and all Gigabyte (and all the other board manufacturers) was change the socket from AM3 (white) to AM3+ (black and different pin config), and add bios support for AM3+. Also as far as I know the AM3+ CPU's use/have a slightly different power requirement/usage that isn't available on the 8xx based boards unless the changed the power circuitry as well.

All things considering if you want to run an AM3+ CPU it would be better to get any of the 970 or 990 based boards that have proper support all around.

u found the same thread i did. thats where i found that disabling the turbo core control in amd overdrive stops it bouncing about. in htat thread tho they said disable it all. i guess different boards/bios's are all gonna get different results enit. ive informed gigabyte support abou the settings nit makin the changes they should.
i'll have a fiddle and another read n see what happens.
cheers :D

edit: has anyone here used any of the windows7 patches and hotfixes for the fx cpu's?
they r something to do with windows 7's architechture not using the cores properly which was noticed during the building of win8.

Nope I did all the Bios upgrading when i was running my 965BE
All i had to do was drop it in and work the settings and i am using a 990fx chipset that was pretty much made for this chip

i would have thought my board would be sound with this cpu as it was one of the first line of 16 black socket boards from gigabyte built for the bulldozer. mines the 880g chipset tho
as for load line calibration i dont have an option for this in the bios.

Not surprised as I said above, the 8xx/AM3 based boards were never designed for Bulldozer. The support was only added after the fact, and they don't have the upgraded power circuitry required for Bulldozer.

That's why i got the Higher end one I knew in the long run it was a better choice and the Proof is in the pudding the best boards for these chips are the 970 990fx models and they are also better overclockers

Well maybe Gigabyte will give you the option to upgrade to a better board I mean it is there screw up to produce such a crappy board just because

I would contact them and have them upgrade your board im sure they can for a little more cost but i would let them know there is no satrisfaction and would like your money back hopefully they can do something

I would go as far as to tell them why keep such a product available if it doesn't work correctly

Gigabyte aren't the only ones that did it; Asus, MSI, etc all did the same thing. Likely reason being it was a quick and easy (some might say dirty) way to get rid of extra stock of the older chipsets.

9 months is a while but yet still should have Manufactuars warrenty

I would contact them and let them know of the Issue and possible ask for a refund for a better supported model cause idealy they are responsable and you have proof

with that proof should be enough to make them budge and fix it to make it right

ive just sent an enote to ebuyer so i'll await their reply. it was close lol. i just checked my account and it was delivered on june 1st.
what would u suggest i do cpu wise. is this likely to cause damage to anything else? as i read in the poststormy linked that if u reinstall the am3 cpu after the bios has been flashed to the am3+ version it burn out the motherboard due to how the power is handled.
proppa stressed me out this has  but thanks for ur help folks i do really apreciated it ;)

I don't think it will damage anything if your not going to use the board anymore

First of all wait for there word

Second if you got the money and can just get the other board

Third if not wait till you get some kind of info on it or another fix

why would they be closed ? kinda odd wouldn't they be open 6 days out of the week atleast

Well you can look into some better boards or we can suggest up to you but if you plan on useing that chip fine but if you have a fear of the board frying don't install your old chip back in it leave it alone and wait for a return response then ship it off

These are the things i would put down just because I know when you do a Bios flash it has warnings redflags etc but if it is up and running there was no damage but if you have concerns of the thermal side of the cpu and voltage changes then don't use it

I wouldn't do that

Looking for a fix would be more helpfull going back would cause damage and bad configuration alltogether not good i'll start looking for any info on this and get back to you there has to be some way of locking your clock speed in when disabling turbo and not having to go through the overdrive

Hmmmm speaking of that Disable the cpu overdrive in the CCC restart then log on then after check it if it is still disabled reboot go into bios then start your unlocking process but leave cool quiet auto as well as the c6 turn off turbo core change the ram speed if it is defaulted and save reboot then check your cpuz and other clock check tools to see if it sticks

Im thinking maybe if you stop the CPU overdrive your bios will allow the settings to stick just a hunch

Hi Ganjiry,

I noticed you are RMA'ing the board to Ebuyer and remembered I did the same with a board a while back, so I checked my account to see how long the process took just to give you an indication.

I started the RMA on a Sunday night, Posted it back on a next day delivery to them on the Monday, and by the Saturday of the same week the money was back in my account.

I expect if you post it back Tuesday, you would have a refund by the following monday or tues.

Paul.
