Question: seeing as we're both using Asus boards, would you say a PLL of 1.9v is too high?

Now that that's been edited in (it was actually 1.9 flat), I have to correct something else - the vcore is set to 1.325 and not 1.365.

1.9 would be upper limits - but to lower temps you can actually try lowering it - I currently have mine at 1.6xx which gives me a 1.6 flat. There doesn't seem to be much need to have it so high as there seems to be less OC impact with PLL and SB/IB, unlike older sockets.

Do you have PPU PLL Overdrive (?think it's that. having a brain fart atm. Setting up the top any way) Enabled or disabled? I have mine disabled.

On Sandy, it only needed to be enabled for 4.8Ghz+ OCs - I 'think' the same applies to Ivy, but since most Ivy users are hitting a temp wall, rather than a voltage one it's better off disabled.

My theory on IBT and Prime. If you set your Vcore by IBT you will fail Prime. If you watch the Vcore, When IBT starts it is higher vcore than when Prime starts. They both fluctuate some, but since IBT starts higher it can drop and still pass. Since Prime starts lower, when it drops you fail because it drops too low. You will get much higher temps with IBT, but if you set vcore with prime, you can pass both. I have never been able to pass Prime and fail IBT. It's just too easy to use IBT to set vcore, it finishes so quickly. But, I have passed IBT on max and failed prime. Those high vcores you guys are getting, you won't get in real world apps. At least I didn't with a 3770K, my real world apps were the same temps as my 2600K. I found the 2600K much harder to OC than the 2500K. It will do it, but you have to make it do it.

I'll find out tomorrow when my 3570K is delivered.

Big reason I think IBT is a perfect tool for a fast/general idea if a OC is stable. especially if looking for a max clock.
But when it comes down to the final stability test .. Prime all the way.

Well, P95 went overnight. Temps look good, and no failures. This morning I set the memory multi to 18.66. Been running P95 since. Here are the current standings;



Overall, I am very happy with this considering I am using a budget board not meant for overclocking. I may try to go a little further. I will see how things are in BF3. I have found that BF3 stresses my components better than any of the tests available, when set on ultra.

Well it wasn't stable Cinabench locked up so i will have to be happy with what i got but it was fun trying though

In no way disapointed the ram i have almost clocked to 1866 without having to up the voltage

Fighting with this thing trying to get it stable with a lower PLL voltage is beginning to annoy me, which is perfectly normal for overclocking. But 1.7935, with the same 1.325 vcore, and a 1v VCCSA nets me about 7-8 hours of P95 activity before it stops responding.

I can't get the VRM Frequency to show me any love, which means more reading needs to be done. As far as PLL goes, I'm not budging from where it's set to in the saved profile that I'll get back to stabilizing in the wee hours of the morning.

You guys have a head start on me. I just got my 3570K about 3 hours ago. Just getting started, but temps are going to kill me. Maybe time to look at real water. 2 hours of Prime.

I know, they're all too hot. But, don't worry, they'll go up. I'm running Prime now at 4.5.

Not sure what happened. prime just crashed. No BSOD or lock ups, Prime just got tired of playing after 2 hours. But, that's OK, it was cutting into my gaming time. Here's what it was at 1.5 hours. I guess I'm going to have to break out the D14 again. Core Temp really has that frequency nailed.

IBT is like 'full throttle' whereas Prime lifts up on the gas every now and then.

It's those transitional power states, vdrops, vdroops etc that are added to Primes mix which do make it the better tool for longevity testing.

What level of LLC do you have it on? And what size of FFT is it hanging on do you know? large or small? - If small, it's not enough vcore.

Not enough vcore. Sudden quits, appcrash means it's 'in the ballpark', but not quite there.

Also, what version of P95 are you running? The latest is 27.7
