As i said mate, it still shows load temps, so I wouldn't worry about :)

1.8v??? Is that on air or W/C - seems pretty high

Different boards I know, but mines at 1.34....

yep, that is pretty high.... but without it my system seems to crash just after windows log in..??? :(

i don't think i'll make 3.8ghz, this has been the hardest chip ive OCed yet.... i think its either a mobo limitation with Quads, or the chip itself has an FSB wall above 3.8ghz...

i can post @ 3.8ghz, but she will not stay stable, no matter how much voltage is thrown at it....

still ive sold my E6750, i have two fellas fighting over who's gonna pay more for it....(a 4ghz screenie goes a long way...lol) :D

so i have acquired this quad for £40 :cool:, i love a bargain.

I have the same sort of problem. I hit a fsb wall at a low 447. Even 1mhz over and it BSoD'S at startup with all sorts of volts thrown at it. I got fed up with it, so that's why I've stuck with 3.8gz.

so i have acquired this quad for £40 :cool:, i love a bargain.

lol, you can't argue with that :)

I ditched 4GB of ram to go back to 4GB only. It was the ram holding me back. It got me past the FSB wall:

3.9 validate.JPG

It's taking some volts to do it too

EDIT:

At least i know this chip will do 4ghz -

Getting it stable is another matter

I was able to squeeze a little more out of my CPU today by messing around with some settings. I just wish the Striker Extreme didn't have all the issues it does with overclocking quad cores, because I'm not going to pencil mod my board...

I gave up on getting 4ghz stable and have temporarily settled for 3.85 ghz stable. It sure gets finicky after a certain level.

every single cpu clocks differently - even ones next door to each other in the same batch. there are so many variables involved.

the max for your cpu is when you lose stability. a constantly crashing pc is not a good pc.

in very simple terms: how do you gain stability once you've upped the fsb too far? you have to up the volts going to the processor, and maybe ram too.

but this makes it hotter - so sort out cooling and air-flow inside the case.

i've got my 3 gig chip to 4 gigs, and decided to stop there. i know it will go a lot higher if i push it, but i don't want my fans running too hard - i want extra performance without too much noise.

I need to get some better cooling. My i7 860 runs stable at 3.7 but tops out at 84C. I can't run that hot. With better cooing it will do MUCH more than this. Anyway here it is. These 860s are very nice. I'm not used to the high multipliers. I'm trying to learn how to get the voltages right. I wonder if I could use a guide for a 920 and get something from that....

Since I recently found a modded bios that lets me o.c. amongst many "new" options, I've been trying to get the highest stable o.c. by adjusting memory timings, memory voltage and other settings that were unavailable previously.

Here's what I'm currently trying, stable under load for a few hours so far. It's a P4 550 HT 3.4 gHz at stock.

a q6600 is by default, a 2.4 gig processor.

however, it has an automatic power saving mode which slows it down to 1.6 if it is not too busy. this not only saves power, but also makes your machine cooler, and may make your cpu live longer.

if you gave your computer some work to do, for example, encoding video files, then you will see that your processor is running at the full 2.4 ghz.

freelancer managed to get his cpu to 3 ghz by overclocking. overclocking can sometimes damage your hardware and make your system unstable if you don't do it right, so you will need to do a bit of googling first.

Here is my screenshot - sorry its lame as vcore is not showing correctly. Vcore is positioned correctly on the slider within MSI Control Center (it is well to the right of vtt) but shows 0.86875v instead of the 1.5v I had it set at. CPU-Z can't read it either.

Anyway I froze shortly after this so its not a stable OC - just the highest where I could get a screenshot
