Anyone have step by step instructions on how to post system specs to this forum using HWINFO32? The thread about how to post specs that is already on this forum don't have info on how to post to this forum using HWINFO32.

Hey Fyrmnj

You could always just copy the info from hwinfo32 by hand there really isnt that much.

But and this is from every one who does this daily. IT IS IMPORTANT TO FILL IN YOUR SYSTEM SPECS. Its the only way we know what your hardware is. On a daily basis I have to ask 50 or more ppl to fill them in just so I can help them

We should make this a why thread. Every time we find one empty we snip the open sys specs and say why we couldn't help. Maybe It will sink In

a tad harsh. i mean some people dont really know whats in their pc's. Mass produced models usualy have some tag, that says some crap about "Duel-Core" and "Fast Memory"
with out actually stating what the actual specs are. for some, less tech savvy, folks might just assume that they have a blinkly light box, that makes noise... and wont know whats in there, unless we help em.

While it may be a tad harsh, and I agree, if this were a car instead of a computer they would know its a ford prius. they might know it gets 22mpg. they would know where to add gas.

In any complex system there has to be a modicum of understanding, and effort. I dont think the ppl who are talking about a failed service dont have the smarts to fill in the specs. I have had to ask the same user on 5 different occasions what hware they had.

Im a little less patient these days cause I can usually tell alot abt how much effort someone is going to put in to fix their own problem.

We all know to google, and search here first. Maybe they dont the first time. After months of being here and reading posts you would think that those users would fill them in.

The easiest way to find your system specs is to type DxDiag in the 'start search box'. Click on the blue/with yellow X icon ... then click on "Save All Information" button (at the bottom of open window).

A notepad .txt file will show up on your desktop. From there, you can see your specs ... fill in what's appropriate :geek:

I thought the easiest way was how I posted for them to do it.
There are some many different ways to find your specs. So the best way
their choice. but System Specs are REALLY NECESSARY. Also I would like to see the MOD's. move all STOLEN THREADS to another thread.
I have never seen 2 people have the exact same PROBLEM , many have simular. but NEVER THE SAME...

Many times you see threads over 10 to 15 posts and 3 or 4 haveing the EXACTLY SAME problems. then it gets confusing as H*ll on who is trying to help who on what problem.

I also think it would be nice If a MOD edits a post: Why was it edited, If I make an ERROR i would like to see what I did wrong, so I can correct and NOT make that ERROR again.

I agree that posting system specs first, is quite necessary... especially if/when you're asking for help.

It's also redundant to post the same question (same member) in more than of the forums here, because as Snuffy said, we don't know who's already helped you, or what you've already tried and done.

that Dxdaig is a nice tool in the first responders toolkit. Because of SF gadget Im usually one (and tews, and kari) of the first ppl to reply to a problem. More than half the time no specs. Some ppl dont know how and we walk them thru it, some dont care or get offended. You know how tough it can be just to get them filled in.

Yes, that extra 1GB IS video memory. I am dual booting Vista32bit and windows7 64 bit. When I am in Vista 32 bit my memory shows as 2GB of ram in system properties. Right now I am in Win7 64 bit.
My Ram total is: 2495MB
My Ram used is: 1041MB
My Ram Free is: 1453MB

Can we use the "Report Post" triangle button to alert mods when a post needs to be moved to a new thread? Or is that for other things? I have only used it once ... not sure ...
