Power options are reversed?

I have a hp mini netbook, and I can't figure out how the power options work.

I have two plans, an every day plan, and an always-on plan.
With both of them, I want the internal fans to run when it is plugged in, and I want them to not run when it isn't plugged in.

But I've noticed that when i have it set like this:
bettery: passive
plugged in: actice
It does the exact opposite.. Granted, it works, but.. not right. My fan just kicked on as I was typing this, even though it wasn'ton for the past while. I suppose this is to prevent overheating, as it started running when the processor temp hit 60C.

The fan is there to prevent overheating, like you said. It doesn't matter if the notebook is plugged in or not, it will start the fans up if it reaches a predefined internal temperature.

Even though you're probably running at a lower frequency/multiplier in battery mode to keep things cool, the computer will still vary the amount of CPU power depending on load. If you're using a CPU intensive app, you can almost guarantee that the fans will start up at some point.

A little fan noise is better than your machine melting, right?

I know that, but the fans run when the option is set to "passive", and don't run when it is set to "active".

In the cpu was30C, fans would run if it was set to passive..

Passive and active are reversed.
