I have a Dell XPS 15 and in Windows 7 Power Management, I am trying to set it to "Do Nothing" when I close the lid. The option is there and I am set to "Do Nothing" but closing the lid shuts off display, network connection, etc. In addition, I would like it to not shut off my network connection when it hibernates as when I log back in after the hibernation, it takes several minutes for the wireless network connectivity to return. Any ideas for these two problems?

Well, for the latter you can't really do that (hibernate means no power, so the NIC is going to go off) - you really want "hybrid sleep" so that it saves hibernation data when told to sleep, but doesn't actually go past a sleep state and into hibernation until a certain amount of time has passed after entering sleep (configurable in the power options for your power plan). As to the former, I'm not certain - if you set it, it should work. It might be interesting to look at what powercfg -Q and powercfg -ENERGY tell you about what options are actually set, and what could be affecting the machine if it isn't working exactly as configured.

Thanks. For the latter, I will just select "Do Nothing" when it is plugged in. For the former, and God knows why this worked, changing the On Battery Setting from hibernate to sleep, seems to have affected the Plugged In setting favorably and my screen and network are staying up when I close the lid. Thanks for the input...
