Solved PowerDVD Ultra v 8

I just attempted to play a Blu Ray movie for the first time, but PDVD popped a couple of errors. The first said that it needed to update to continue playing disks, the second was for setting the region and a third was the cryptic error below. I'm under the impression that this version of PDVD should work with Blu Ray...am I wrong?

Do a google for

80040154 power dvd

and you'll see you aren't alone. Make sure you have the latest update for your version:

Also make sure you run Power DVD as admin.

I found the Cyberlink BD Advisor, and it found several problems with my system, but I'm trying to sort them out on the basis of priority to just get a BD movie to play. I've attached all 4 screens, but I suspect that the most significant problem is on the first screen, regarding HDCP on a DVI connection. My monitor does have a HDMI connection, but not my video card. When I attempted to use a DVI to HDMI cable, I never got more than a black screen, and Acer tech support claimed that I had to use either DVI to DVI or HDMI to HDMI.

I vaguely recall someone saying something about a means to accomplish this with just a DVI connection...can I?

As it turned out, A Guy's suggestion was the one that worked. I had so many things going on, that I didn't implement it until now...installing the update from Cyberlink.

Glad you got it sorted out BD advisor is a good tool, also having your program set to let you know of updates helps as PDVD8 Ultra is getting kinda old. I use 9 and also have just purchased 10 Ultra 11 3d got it for $63.00 used on Amazon. It's the best I've used so far even makes regular DVD's look a ton better.
Yet compared to 8 or 9 it's a resource hog.
