I have an Asus Xonar D2X sound card for my rig and I am currently using a logitech X-540 speaker system.
I'd like it if someone can recommend a really powerful speaker system that can be used with the sound card without the use of a receiver.
I was looking into something better than logitech Z906. My budget is around $500

EDIT: The speaker system should be 5.1 or 7.1

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions.
I like the Logitech Z-5500 specs but not the design. Is it better than the Logitech Z906? Because if they sound the same I might go for the Z906 or should I wait for a Z-5500 relaunch?

Thanks again

the Z-5500 power is 505 watt, and Z-906 has 500 watt... but my choice is the Logitech Z-906

I prefer the Z906 design, Seems more professional but the reviews on it are just discouraging.

The Z5500 has been discontinued and replaced with the Z906.

Not sure if they are available where you are but another option would be these,

Edifier S550 Multimedia Speaker

Most reviews rate then higher than the z5500.

Looks decent bit the output power is almost half the Z5500 and Z906. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I guess i might go for Z906 in the end.

As it seems, the Edifier s550 is better than the Z5500 but I dont like the design of both. My original choice was JBL Cinema 300 but then again I would need a receiver.

That's the way I would go and did go.
I had internal sound and powered 5.1 logitechs.
Went to a Omega Claro with XT-250 bucks, got a yamaha receiver from ebay--100 bucks and a set of Energy Take 5.1 Speakers-400 bucks.

I use a pair of Alesis M1 Active MK2 studio monitors for my PC and if I want surround sound I'll use my HTPC with the Pioneer/JBL/Polk 5.1 setup.
The Alesis have very good imaging and I do most of my gaming, movie, and tv watching with them. they also play loud and clear at levels that hurt your ears.

Do you actually have your 5.1 setup you use now with the speakers in the proper place? I see a lot of people have all 5 speakers sitting on the desk facing the user which defeats the purpose of surround sound.
