So let me get this straight. Right now I am running on the Pre-Beta Build 6956 with the 30 day activation. I was told I wouldn't have to worry about fixing the activation because the true Beta would be out within the next month. So my question is; Will I have to reformat and fresh install with a new DVD in order to use the new full beta, or can I update through my current build? I don't wanna waste a billion DVD's just to keep up with the builds.

Hi Mike,

Yes, unfortunately you will need to create a new installation DVD for any new version released. With these pre-beta and beta versions, it is best to do a clean install with them to avoid problems during and after the installation. :(

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the reply Brink. Will this change once we get into the full Beta stage? Because the Pre-Beta isn't really made to be updated, because its made for demonstration use. Where as the full Beta could be made to update so beta tester's don't have a hard time. You know what I mean? :p

I would doubt that the upgrade option would be viable until it is released as a later Release Candidate or retail version. :)

The recommendation is to do a fresh install every time, but you can (and many people do) an upgrade from version to version. But regardless of version, you'll always need to burn a new DVD for every upgrade/fresh install. And you don't need to worry about wasting a billion DVD's, I think you should only expect 2 or 3 more builds :D

While Brinks advice is indeed the best. (pre-releases are bad enough as fresh installs!)

Vista Ultimate x64 updated fine to Win 7 Ultimate x64 build 6801 and then updated AGAIN fine to build Win 7 build 6936 x64.

Obviously Brink is also right in the fact that this could change though.
