Pre-requisite updates for IE 11 not allowing me to update

Hello,

I am having a problem with trying to upgrade a PC from IE 9 to IE 11. I am doing an offline upgrade of IE 11 on a Dell OptiPlex 3010 with a fully secured patched Win 7 SP1 (32-bit) OS. This PC was using IE 9 due to several incompatible sites that the user needed to get to that wouldn't work in IE 11 but they now need to upgrade.

When I run the IE 11 install executable it acts as if it is downloading setup files and patches but then stops a minute or two in with a message that "You need to install some pre-requisite updates in order for IE 11 to install". It then takes me to a TechNet article describing what updates are needed. They're the following:

  • KB2729094
  • KB2731771
  • KB2533623
  • kb2670838
  • kb2786081
  • KB2834140
I had downloaded each update, copied each update to the desktop, and ran each update. Some came back as already installed while other's came back un-applicable. I believe two of the updates did actually need to be installed. So after trying all six I attempted to run the install again and was again told that there are pre-requisite updates that need to be installed. I also tried a reboot, did the same thing.

I had also tried this on another 3010 Win-7 32-bit PC that needed upgraded to 9 and it had worked fine. IE9 was upgraded to 11. So I am not sure what other updates I could need or why this wouldn't work on this particular PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,
Have you tried ie10 yet ?
Why skip it

Right click and Hide on the ie11 update,
Recheck for updates and ie10 will appear unless you hid it too ?

If ie10 installs check for updates again and load all security patches for it,
test it out

If you want to now try ie11,
Use Restore hidden updates link on the top left.
Restore ie11 and install it.

I had tried the IE 10 installation and the same thing happens. It asks me for pre-requisite updates that should already be installed. Our corporation uses virtualized web browsing and has blocked pretty much Port 80 to the local PC. So Windows Update won't work. I need to use an offline installation package.

Try the offline installer, let it install a few updates, restart the computer and try the same offline installer again.

Yes, I was doing offline installs for both IE 10 and 11. I installed the per-requisite updates and then tried the install again it still didn't work, even after a reboot. I have a number of things to try. I'll give an update once I hopefully find something that works.

Thanks again for all your help folks :)
