'Preparing your Desktop' Message

When I logged on to Windows 7 the other day, it read 'Preparing your desktop' for some reason and after it finished loading it went into a weird account, with Windows Aero disabled and the background was black. Can someone please tell me what happened?

Hi,

It does sound like you acidentally logged into the wrong account actually.

We get the "preparing your desktop" thing when logging into our network if we've never used that machine before. Its generally just copying your user settings over the nextwork.

You could presumably check this by checking the different user profiles on your machine. See if there are any others than your's

I do have 2 user profiles on my account, and I ran the System File Check and it said it did not find any violations.

Hello Agoraptor, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you notice if you also got either one of the user profile errors below before or after the 'Preparing your desktop' screen? Either way, you might consider doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened to see if that can fix this for you.
