I have several MS Office files that are password-protected, but I notice that their contents is displayed in the Preview Pane. Is there any way to keep a particular file from being previewed? If not, can Preview Pane be totally and permanently disabled?

This seems like a no-brainer to me, but I am no techie. Thank you for any help.

I don't understand why running a repair tool solves this issue. Please advise.

Follow OPTION ONE which is running a .reg file to change a registry setting to disable the preview pane. Only administrators can change that but it will turn the preview pane off for all users.

The Preview pane of Windows Explorer? I don't get that. All P/W'ed .docx or .docm files here are not previewed. What version of Office are you running?

I am running Office 2013.

Is there any way to prevent a single file from previewing?

Thank you.

Unfortunately - or fortunately - I know nothing of Office 2013. I'm on Office 2007, and none of my p/w files are shown in Explorer's Preview. It seems like an enormous privacy leak. I wonder if other accounts can access this information.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
The best way to not have files being able to be viewed by other people is to Not let other people user your user account,
Make sure your the Only administrator account on the machine,
Then don't put files in the Public folder area in win-7 libraries which is C:Users/ Your User Name/ Public.

Then only you can preview or see your files.
Otherwise I would suggest a third party Zip folders utility like 7zip... that you can password a folder.
But if the above is done your login password is your password for all folders.
Cheers.

Thank you for that advice. I don't allow anyone else to use my user account (or computer) but for work I am about to have to login and post a lot of information to an online database, so I am concerned in general.

I decided to recreate the file in OpenOffice Writer and password protect it, and the Preview Pane cannot read an odt file.
