preview pane... the window that pops up when you roll over it...

I hope this is in the right place.

I'm new to Win7 ... and I must say, it is not as great as they said it was gonna be.
It's Vista, and maybe worse - for me.

So ... if anyone can help me with a few of the more irritating options, I will be eternally grateful.

1. How do you turn off those preview windows, sort of like pop ups when you mouse over your task bar? I had to put my task bar on TOP, since chat windows are on the bottom and every time I went to type it would activate that task bar preview window of what else is open. I really want to just turn that off.
2. How can I get show desktop back in quick links? I can not find that setting anywhere. How do I turn off the "desktop" button on the task bar? If i want to get to my desktop, I prefer to go there.
3. How do I get that little bar in the corner that shows what is active / running. It has one but it only shows a few things. I'm on my pc @ work right now, and I can see that my email is open, it has the icon for my speakers, one for the anti virus software, ... SAM Broadcasting runs after you close it, and the only way I can close it was to right click on the little icon that used to show up in that bar, but no longer does. :-(

Sorry for making such a long post. I've only had this computer for a few weeks, and every single thing I try to do on it becomes a project. I do not understand why they keep making things more complicated. I liked XP .... (sigh)

1. Disable and Turn Off Taskbar Thumbnail Preview in Windows 7 (Switch to List View)

2. The show desktop is in the right corner of the tasbar. But if you want it the old stlye, follow the link.

3. I dont really understand your problem. Not all applications appear in the right corner. Only applications that are set to minimize in the systray will appear there.

Thanks! I found the desktop button (so to speak) ~ I dont need it to look like the old one, but it seems very hard to find the way it is... I appreciate that , I missed it a lot!

I dont know exactly how to explain the other thing.... its not the preview pane of a folder.

I have several things open on my task bar, and when I mouse over them a window pops up to show what is open. I would like to turn that off.

I guess I'll have to do a cntrl alt delete to make sure Sam is not running, since for unknown reasons it does not show up in the right side with things like windows updates, yahoo msgr...etc.

Maybe try Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons You can turn them off 1 by 1 if I read it right

If it doesnt appear in the right corner, it may be hidden. See if this helps.
