Solved Printer Networking

Hi,

I have just bought a HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fn Color Printer. I have it right next to my computer, and this is what I would like to do.

I would like to connect the printer directly to my computer (connected to wireless network) with an ethernet cable. I would then like Windows to broadcast the printer to the Wireless Network, so that the wireless router would be able to give print access to other computers connected wirelessly to the wireless router. Is this possible?

You can create a homegroup and enable printer sharing. See here.

BTW, you'll need to use a usb cable or mini usb cable (or whatever connectivity cable came with the printer) to attach the printer to the computer, not an ethernet cable. Ethernet cable would be needed to set up a network printer which is a different baby.

If the printer has an Ethernet (RJ45) connector it would be better practice to connect the printer directly to the network as this would allow printing from any system attached to the router without the need for any other PC to be active

That is a network capable printer with an ethernet connection.
Connect it directly to the wireless router using an ethernet cable.
Each computer should then be able to detect it as a network printer.

Hi,

Ok thanks, I know that you would have to connect it to the router, but I was trying to do this without moving the router near the printer. I did it anyways so all is good now.
