I have an Epson XP-400 all-in-one printer that I'm having trouble with. It says there is a paper jam but I can't seem to find anything. I've taken all the paper out and looked where the paper feeds and I've opened the scanner and looked inside. The manual says if the error message doesn't reset then turn of the printer and then back on again. That doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

I had an issue with a HP printer.. went to the forum and was told to do what I had already done for troubleshooting to fix the error.. ended up sending it back as it was under warranty.. If yours is out of warranty . then you are left with only using troubleshooting steps to isolate the problem .
Go here and see if you can trouble shoot it : http://er.epson.com:8001/start?TM=f...400&referralmodel=Epson-XP-400&pid=C11CC07201

Hi there

Maybe one of the little micro connectors is broken or stuck. Try and get some compressed air and blow through the paper feed -- could be a little tiny almost invisible piece of paper is stuck somewhere.

If you can totally remove all cables etc then try and give it a good old fashioned "Engineers Shake" .

If these don't work I'm afraid it's truly BUST and you'll either have to return it under any applicable warranty or get a new one -- these cheaper printers will cost more to repair them than to replace --shame but that's modern manufacturing for you.

Cheers

Also, printer jams need to be cleared using the manufacturers procedure or, as mentioned, the sensors in the printer can be damaged beyond repair. Seldom is it cost effective to have out-of-warranty printers repaired if one can even find a service center, in the long run it's cheaper to just get a new one. Shopping around can find new 3-in-1 printers that cost a bit less than cartridges for an older model. 4-in-1 units include the Fax function that requires a phone line.

There should be a proceedure for roller cleaning, search the Epson website if it isn't in the maintenance section. For my Canon,Ifold a piece of A4 and feed it through, this cleans out the debris.

Hallbl06,
After you've inspected every possible place for paper to hang up(top load, back load and front load) in try shutting down your system, unplug power supply and usb, of your all in one printer, connection to the computer, then reboot.
After computer comes back on then plug power supply back in and attach the usb back in to let your computer find your all in one printer.

I had this happen to one of my old HP printer's and for some reason it worked. Go figure but the darn thing is still printing.
Best of luck and hope you get it working without having to buy or send out for repair.
THW
