Hello everyone. Before, I apologize for my english; because I'm spanish and when I have problems I use a translator.
I have a graphic card Ati Radeon 9600 series, but I cant install it with windows 7. The OS tell me that it is my graphic, but I dont have 3d... I tried with drivers of vista, but dont run... I test with differents version of catalyst.... and dont work neither. I write to ATI support and they tell me that windows install automatically the graphic card... but this is not true.
Im desperate... I dont know if wait a update or format and install XP again... or buy another graphic card.... I dont know...
Somebody can help me? Somebody have this graphic installed?
Oh, I have windows 7 build 7100... for more information :)
Thanks in advance, I hope answers ^_^

Yes the radeon 9xxx series has been dropped to legacy status,as well as everything from the X300 to the X19xx series,

AMD has moved a number of DX9 ATI Radeon™ graphics accelerators products to a legacy driver support structure. This change impacts Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Linux distributions. AMD has moved to a legacy software support structure for these graphics accelerator products in an effort to better focus development resources on future products.

One reason (and I can't find the link at the moment) is that there is something in the WDDM 1.1 that is incompatible with that range of cards.

Oh and before any of the Nvida fans chime in about Nvidia's great legacy support, Nvidia never even provided proper Vista support for the FX series of cards (same generation as the OP's card) with the one and only Vista driver dated from October 2006.

I know this thread is very old but I registered here to show a solution I found to work. I have a Radeon 9600 and was about to give up on getting a working driver.

I d-loaded Catalyst 8.1XP 32bit, ran it in XP compatibility mode... it works.

This is with an old NForce2 chipset.

A professor once told me "Don't let the computer tell you what it can do." In other words, there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I just finished installing my daughters first computer (my old one) with a new windows 7 license and I can confirm that mrawesome32's solution works nicely. Now that OpenGL works she can toy with lego digital designer again, thanks :)
