Hi Zico -

Yes, if the compatibility check flagged the programs then they would best be uninstalled completely before trying an in-place Upgrade.

But as has been pointed out, if you are willing to take a little extra time you can have possibly a better install by clean installing, since you are going to have to reinstall some programs anyway.

Gather your program installers and any product keys for Office, etc. You can audit product keys from your HD using Belarc Advisor to make sure you have them.

Back up your files, Boot the Win7 DVD, choose Custom install, install Win7 to the partition where Vista is currently installed .

The Win7 installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing in Device Manager can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or device.

I would download your wireless driver to a USB flash stick or CD first so you can run it to get online quickly if the installer doesn't provide it.

Install programs slowly over time to gauge any performance changes which they might cause. Don't allow any programs to write themselves into msconfig>Startup except AV and gadgets as they become freeloaders on your RAM/CPU and can spy on you: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/70248-troubleshooting-msconfig.html

When you have it set up as you like, clean and order the HD perfectly using state-of-the-ar free CCleaner then the Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers monthly. Save a Win7 backup image externallly so you never have to reinstall again: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html
