I'm preparing tomove from XP to Win7. I want to move my Outlook Express contacts, folders and emails to another email system like Outlook.com.
I keep getting this message:

Your email app might not have closed properly the last time. Please open and close the app before continuing.

The equivalent to outlook express is live mail not outlook.com,
Once you download and install a new default email program you'll be able to move the express information to live mail,
Then if you want to connect live mail to a on line service like outlook.com you can,

You can also use a service like Thunder bird,
