As soon as I type the first letter into the Google box, it shoots it up to the address bar in my Chrome browser. Find it a bit annoying and it doesn't happen if I'm in Explorer. Is there a way to turn this off? Is there any benefit to it?

This seems to be a default behaviour in Google Chrome. You could change your home page to Google (looks the same as Chrome's built-in "New Tab" page, but has no "frequently visited" sites.

The address bar is essentially Google.

To change your homepage, open Settings in chrome, and search for "startup", select "open a specific page" and add google there

OK thought there might be some setting I could change. Kind like the "frequently visited" sites being right there if I changed the home page.
